Sustainability goals

Our sustainability goals in the areas of Circularity, Climate, People and Fair Play are in place to help us make the shift to a more sustainable business, which is one of our strategic objectives. The sustainability goals take a holistic approach that includes customers, suppliers and our own operations in its scope.

We report regularly on sustainability KPIs in our interim reports to ensure we are on the right track. The four goal areas have been included in the business area review process, and across the organization all divisions have developed roadmaps to achieve the goals in their most relevant areas.

  • Circularity goal

    Goal: More than 90% circularity

    We will drive the shift to more circular business models and use of resources, finding ways to close loops and generate new revenue streams from the processes and materials we use. Our targets are:

    Customers

    • Material and resource efficiency improvement part of all development projects
    • Develop business models for recycling/circularity for our customers

    Operations

    At least 90% material circularity for:

    • Packaging
    • Products
    • Waste

    Suppliers

    • Require 90% circularity for key suppliers

  • Climate goal

    Goal: Halve the CO2 impact

    We will deliver on our commitments to reduce the impact on the climate. We are aiming to shift mindsets and outcomes in our own business, for our customers and with our suppliers to help reach our targets. Our targets are:

    Customers

    • CO2 improvement part of all product development projects
    • Value proposition to our customers shall always include verified CO2 reduction potential

    Operations

    • Halve the CO2 footprint from our own production
    • Halve the CO2 footprint for transportation of people and products

    Suppliers

    • Require halving of CO2 footprint from our key suppliers

  • People goal

    Goal: Zero harm to people

    We aspire to the highest standards for people and we will keep stepping these standards up higher and higher. Our goal is Zero Harm. Our targets are:

    Customers

    • Health and safety improvements part of all product development projects
    • Health and safety/risk analyses with all products and services

    Operations

    • Halve Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR)
    • All Sandvik employees to be offered health and well-being programs
    • Diverse and inclusive workforce with at least one-third female managers

    Suppliers

    • Require health and safety improvements plan to reach Sandvik standards from key suppliers

  • Fair play goal

    Goal: Always do the right thing

    We will constantly aim higher in ethics and transparency, being a leader in playing fair and being open. Our targets are:

    Customers

    • Know Your Customer (KYC) process leading to active, sustainable choices
    • Increased transparency on sustainability targets and results

    Operations

    • Proactive and agile compliance system fully embedded in business operations
    • All community involvement engagements should support Sandvik's strategy and purpose
