We are looking for an innovative and committed Development Engineer to join our team. The position is based in Tampere, Finland, at our home office in Tulli Business Park, located right in the city center.
Your role
Your responsibilities will focus on systems engineering, including the design, implementation, and integration of vehicle control and safety systems as well as other intelligent systems. The target products are our heavy mobile machines operating in demanding mining environments.
Your work will span multiple levels, from high-level autonomy to the design and development of low-level interfaces. You will work in a small team that both develops new features and ensures their integration into the existing product portfolio. The role also requires a hands-on approach to supporting testing phases, where the solutions you have designed prove their capabilities either in simulation environments or in real mining conditions. You will report to the Manager of the Technology Programs team.
Your background and key competencies
Understanding of guidance, navigation, and control systems, with strong expertise in at least one of these areas
- Knowledge of systems engineering principles
- Experience in the practical implementation of embedded and distributed control systems; you do not need to be a software developer, but being comfortable reading code is considered an advantage
- A willingness to learn the system’s operation at the level of requirements, software, and practical functionality is essential
We expect from you
You have a relevant technical degree (e.g. Master of Science in Engineering) and prior experience in a comparable environment. Experience in the development of automation or mobile machinery in an international business environment is valued. Previous experience in the mining industry is not required.
You can define, design, and document your ideas and work independently with a systematic and structured approach. You have strong written and spoken English skills, as English is the daily working language of the team.
You communicate easily and collaborate well with new people, and you enjoy a variety of tasks. A tool to you could be a wrench, Wireshark, or both. This role does not involve regular travel, but occasional customer visits may be required. In Tampere, work is split as needed between the city center office and the Myllypuro test mine.
