Drafting Technician

We now have an opening for a Drafting Technician with strong technical drawing skills and hands on experience applying Lean principles in a manufacturing or engineering environment. In this role, you will thrive in an environment that values precision, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. You will support engineering, production, and quality teams by creating accurate technical drawings, while contributing to process optimization efforts and helping eliminate operational waste.

What you will be doing:
Technical Drafting
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D drawings, models, and schematics using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor).
- Update and maintain engineering drawings, and documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
- Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and design intent to create clear, manufacturable drawings.
- Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, internal guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Lean & Continuous Improvement
- Apply Lean methodologies (5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping, standard work) to improve drafting workflows and documentation processes.
- Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve clarity, and enhance efficiency in design and production documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to support Lean initiatives and process optimization.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to design or documentation issues.
Communication
- Communicate with co-workers, management, customers and others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Accept guidance and constructive feedback from fellow and senior staff.
- Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, and production staff to ensure drawings meet functional and manufacturing requirements.
- Support prototype builds and production launches by providing timely drawing updates and documentation.
- Assist in maintaining digital file structures, revision control, and document management systems.
What you will bring along:
- Diploma or Certificate in Drafting, CAD Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related technical field
- Associate degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline (asset)
- Formal training in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor) through an accredited program or recognized training provider
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), mechanical design principles, and manufacturing processes
- Coursework or training in GD&T, manufacturing processes, and quality systems (ISO, AS, or similar) (asset)
- Demonstrated experience with Lean tools and methodologies
- Experience participating in or leading Lean improvement events (asset)
- Lean training or certification such as Lean Yellow Belt, Lean Green Belt, 5S, Kaizen, or value stream mapping (asset)
- Knowledge of ISO standards or quality management systems (asset)
- Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or product design environments (asset)
- Familiarity with PLM or document control systems (asset)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel if required
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Analytical mindset with a continuous improvement attitude
- Organized, proactive, and able to work with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
