In this three-part Meet Sandvik podcast series, we travel back to the 1850s to explore the remarkable story of Göran Fredrik Göransson − the industrialist and entrepreneur who saw the potential in Henry Bessemer's revolutionary steelmaking process long before anyone else.
This first episode follows Göransson from successful merchant and industrialist to visionary risk-taker, as he invests in an unproven technology that would eventually transform the global steel industry.
"Henry Bessemer had unveiled a new method of producing steel on a large scale, something that promised to transform the entire industry. The inventor, however, couldn't make the process work in practice," says Carina Dahlberg, Sandvik historical advisor, who shares her insights throughout the episode.
It is a story of industrial transformation, entrepreneurship and calculated risk at a time when the world was entering the age of railways, steam power and mass production.
This is the first of three episodes following Göransson's journey: from vision, through years of trials and setbacks, to the breakthrough that laid the foundation for the company that would become today's Sandvik.
