Procurement Specialist

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Sandvik Mining is a leading global supplier of equipment and tools, service and technical solutions for the mining and construction industry. Our offering covers rock drilling, rock cutting, rock crushing, loading and hauling and materials handling.

Currently we are seeking a Procurement Specialist who will focus on placing purchase orders for the timely delivery of goods to meet the requirements of production. You will perform data analysis, negotiate with suppliers, and support the team. You will be responsible for researching and qualification of new and existing sources that will improve the company’s bottom line and supply chain. You will work to build and maintain strategic supplier partnerships.

What you will be doing

  • Sourcing, evaluating, and negotiating price, delivery, technical and quality requirements with new and existing suppliers
  • Purchasing mechanical and electronic parts
  • Expediting and tracking orders to ensure timely delivery
  • Performing data analysis to identify cost savings opportunities
  • Negotiating with suppliers to reduce costs, receive discounts and achieve most cost-effective mode of transportation
  • Entering purchase order details (e.g. vendors, quantities, prices) into internal databases
  • Maintaining updated records of purchased products, delivery information and invoices
  • Coordinating with warehouse staff to ensure proper storage

Other duties as required

What you will bring along

  • College diploma or University degree is preferred.
  • SCMP designation, or a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing purchasing environment, considered an asset.
  • Some experience reading engineering drawings
  • Good knowledge of vendor sourcing practices (researching, evaluating, and liaising with vendors)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as strong attention to detail
  • Solid analytical skills, and conduct cost analyses
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Detail orientated
