R&D Manager, Control Systems for Surface Drilling Division

Part of our exciting business is the Surface Drilling Division, where our intelligent surface drill rigs bring the latest technology to surface mining and construction applications – we’d like to call it true power with absolute precision!

To further strengthen our focus on delivering industry leading solutions that meet our customers’ quality requirements, we are now looking for R&D Manager, Control Systems for a permanent position in Tampere/Myllypuro, Finland. This role reports directly to VP R&D, Surface Drilling.

Your role

As R&D Manager for Control Systems, your main responsibility is to lead teams responsible for control systems development of surface drilling equipment. Your teams are also responsible for onboard automation, telemetry development and software testing. In this role you’ll map out and execute technology roadmaps in areas such as drill rig control systems, automation, electrification and digitalization. As part of the R&D leadership team, you play a key role in maintaining a competitive existing product range as well as developing a roadmap for future offering. Your engineering teams are working in close co-operation with internal and external stakeholders of different technology areas.

The main responsibilities include the following:

• Manage technology development activities in your area of responsibility
• Drive continuous cost, quality and manufacturability improvement for existing products
• Work with product management to define scope and specifications for products to be implemented in New Product Development (NPD) projects
• Managing SW release process and aligning that with product releases
• Deliver concepts for NPD projects and support the design implementation
• Work in close co-operation with different partners both internal and external
• Coach and develop the team

Your background and what we find important

You have relevant technical education and already several years’ work experience in related industry. You have experience in leading teams in heavy machinery or its subsystem development. You have fluent communication skills both in Finnish and English.

Proactive and systematic way of working and excellent skills in problem solving will be needed. You can work under pressure in the multicultural project environment and capability to lead the development team to meet the challenging targets and deadlines is a must. Most crucially, you have a passion to learn and understand customer requirements as well as internal requirements and the ability to combine those with technologies to form world class products.
