We now have an opening for a Plant Manager. In this role, you will direct and manage all plant operations through a team of functional managers and supervisors with overall responsibility for production, maintenance, quality, galvanizing process control, and related production activities. Ensure increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction while continuously improving the efficiency of manpower, materials, machines, chemical usage, environmental controls, and zinc recovery processes in a safe and compliant manner.

What you will be doing:

Operational Leadership

  • Direct and manage plant operations including production, maintenance, quality, shipping, and receiving.
  • Ensure manufacturing objectives are achieved in a timely, cost-effective, and safe manner.
  • Coordinate daily operations through Front-Line Supervisors to meet production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
  • Support Sales by maintaining production levels aligned with customer demand and requested delivery dates.

Galvanizing Process & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee the full hot-dip galvanizing process, including surface preparation, pickling, fluxing, galvanizing, quenching, finishing, and inspection.
  • Ensure coating thickness, adhesion, and surface quality meet applicable ASTM, CSA, ISO, and customer specifications.
  • Monitor and control zinc bath chemistry, bath temperature, dross formation, ash recovery, and zinc consumption efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process capability, throughput, and yield.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

  • Ensure the plant meets or exceeds all applicable OHSA, environmental, and internal SHEQ requirements.
  • Champion a strong safety culture in high-risk environments involving molten zinc, chemicals, acids, overhead lifting, and confined spaces.
  • Ensure risk assessments, JSAs, lockout/tagout programs, emergency response plans, and safe work procedures are implemented and maintained.
  • Oversee environmental controls including air emissions, wastewater treatment, chemical handling, spill prevention, and waste management.
  • Lead incident investigations, corrective actions, and regulatory inspections.
  • Adhere to Sandvik's Environmental, Health & Safety policies.
  • Attend related training sessions and follow applicable safety procedures, including use of all mandatory PPE when visiting Sandvik or customer facilities.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with quality management systems and ISO standards.
  • Maintain audit readiness for internal, external, customer, and regulatory audits.
  • Ensure inspection records, traceability, and documentation meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Support customer audits, technical inquiries, and corrective action processes.

Budgets & Cost Control

  • Monitor and control production costs, ensuring competitiveness and budget adherence.
  • Participate in the development of capital and operating budgets related to plant operations.
  • Manage capital assets and prepare capital expenditure requests with business justifications.
  • Optimize zinc usage, chemical consumption, maintenance costs, and labour efficiency.

Production Planning & Supply Chain Coordination

  • Align production schedules with Sales, Logistics, and Customer Service teams.
  • Coordinate maintenance shutdowns to minimize operational disruption.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to manage raw material availability (steel input, zinc, chemicals) and mitigate supply risks.
  • Ensure safe and efficient material handling, storage, and shipment of finished goods.

People Management & Development

  • Responsible for plant staffing levels, workforce planning, and future capacity requirements.
  • Lead performance management, performance improvement plans, and discipline in line with company policies and employment legislation.
  • Establish standards, KPIs, and benchmarks to measure departmental performance and efficiency.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and training to supervisors and staff.
  • Build succession plans for supervisory and key technical roles.

Continuous Improvement & Initiative

  • Embrace and promote Lean manufacturing principles, 6S, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Encourage employee engagement and accountability at all levels.
  • Partner with Quality and Engineering to investigate coating defects, non-conformances, scrap, and rework.

What you will bring along:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of plant or operations management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience in galvanizing, metal coating, or heavy industrial operations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing safety, environmental, and quality systems in regulated industrial settings.
  • Strong background in manufacturing methods and process improvement programs.
  • Experience in hot-dip galvanizing, metal finishing, or heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
  • AGA Master Galvanizer Certified (strong asset).
  • Solid understanding of chemical processes, molten metal operations, and environmental controls.
  • Proven ability to manage high-risk operations with a strong safety and compliance focus.
  • Experience working in ISO 9001, ISO 14001, certified environments would be considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and people management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and adaptability to production and maintenance software systems.
  • Ability to analyse data, identify issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required; Black Belt considered an asset.
  • Supervisory Health & Safety or Incident Investigation training.
  • ISO or Environmental Management certifications considered an asset.
