New head of Sandvik Materials Technology’s product area Tube
Michael Andersson is the new head of Sandvik Materials Technology's product area Tube. He joined Sandvik in 2002.
Where have you worked before you joined Sandvik?
"Before I started to work for Sandvik, I was working with Supply Chain Management at Ericsson Radio Systems in different leading positions. I also have a background as Lecturer and Researcher within the fields of Supply Chain and Logistics from the University of Gävle."
What are your major challenges in this new position?
"Safety is for sure one of them. We have a work environment with many risks and by that also too many accidents. To change this situation hard things like machinery investments to build away risks on the shop floor are needed. But of equal and maybe even more importance, leadership, behavior and culture need to be changed.
Our expansion into the energy segment is another challenge. We have a fantastic opportunity and also key strengths to grow and develop in this direction. Both from a know-how point of view but also from a foot-print perspective. Oil & Gas is one area, but other energy applications will also be in our focal point.
Yet another challenge the comming years is to strengthen our competitive position in our core and standard segments. We clearly see how competition increases in these segments. We have just recently set a more suitable organization in place to take on that challenge.
How will you make a difference?
One person does not make a difference in my mind. My contribution to the scene will be to put things clear about expectations, about reality and to engage at setting a strong team capable of meeting those challenges and expectations.
What is so special about working at Sandvik?
It's a great company that put trust in people, that offer oportunities and that is always looking for new and better ways of doing things. I'm extremly proud of working for Sandvik
