Sandvik investing in new tube mill in Sandviken
During 1997, Sandvik will begin construction of a new tube mill, Tube Mill 98, for production of seamless, stainless-steel heat-exchanger tubes in Sandviken.
The investment, estimated in the first phase to amount to about SEK 250 million, is part of Sandvik Steel's long-term investment plan.
At full capacity in the first phase, Tube Mill 98 will employ about 30 persons. The investment increases capacity and more efficient production methods will be adopted to reduce costs.
The 300-meter-long tube hall will house pilger mills and include degreasing, annealing and finishing equipment.
"The new tube mill enhances Sandvik's competitiveness to a significant degree in an attractive growth area. Desire for increased performance in chemical and refining industry processes places new demands which Sandvik will be able to meet with this investment," says Per Ericson, General Manager of the Seamless Tube Division and newly appointed President of Sandvik Steel.
