Vice President, Automation

Automation is one of Business Area Mining’s strategic growth businesses, developing and delivering industry-leading automation and autonomous solutions for the mining industry. By combining advanced technology with a strong customer focus, the business plays a key role in shaping safer, more productive and more sustainable mining operations.

We’re now looking for a Vice President, Automation to lead this global business and shape its next phase of profitable growth. This is a unique opportunity to take full responsibility for a market-leading portfolio within one of the mining industry’s most advanced technology businesses.

Your mission

You lead the global Automation Business Unit, with full responsibility for strategy, profitability, product portfolio, sales, delivery, aftermarket, sourcing and supply chain and organizational development. Working closely with customers and stakeholders worldwide, you accelerate profitable growth, reinforce our market leadership and advance innovation across the business.

You report to the President, Digital Mining Technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Set and execute the long-term strategy for the Automation Business Unit and its product portfolio.

• Own the business unit’s P&L and deliver sustainable, profitable growth.

• Drive innovation and the successful commercialization of new technologies and solutions.

• Deepen strategic customer relationships and further strengthen Sandvik’s leading position in mining automation.

• Build strong capabilities to support aftermarket growth through spare parts, services and learning and development across the organization

• Lead and develop a high-performing global organization with the capabilities required for future growth.

• Collaborate across Sandvik to maximize customer value, synergies and business performance.

Location and travel

This position is based in Tampere, Finland. You operate in a highly international environment, with extensive global travel and regular engagement with customers and stakeholders.

Your profile

You’re an experienced business leader with a strong track record in mining technology, automation, digital solutions, or related industry. Combining strategic leadership with commercial acumen, you’ve successfully led global businesses, delivered profitable growth, and brought advanced technologies to market.

Your background includes

• Extensive leadership experience within a global, technology-intensive business environment.

• Strong P&L management experience and a proven record of delivering business growth.

• Experience leading complex, cross-functional, and international organizations.

• Strong strategic, commercial, and stakeholder management capabilities.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate a clear vision while driving execution.

• It’s highly valued with experience in automation, autonomous systems, industrial software, robotics, AI-enabled products, mobile equipment, or related technologies.

Success in this position comes from combining business insight with curiosity, innovation, and a passion for customer value creation. You build trust through collaboration, inspire high-performing teams, and navigate complex global environments with confidence and integrity.

The team

You lead a global organization of approximately 500 employees and work closely with an experienced international leadership team. Collaboration spans customers, business stakeholders, and teams across Sandvik, creating opportunities to drive innovation and long-term business success on a global scale.
