Sandvik is seeking an experienced and driven Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to lead and support initiatives that protect our employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and advance our commitment to environmental stewardship and operational excellence.
In this role, you will serve as a trusted Champion to site management and employees by identifying risks, implementing effective controls, and promoting a proactive culture of safety and continuous improvement. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence organizational performance while driving sustainable improvements across our manufacturing operations.
What You'll Do
As the EHS Engineer, you will:
- Lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, policies, procedures, and management systems.
- Develop and deliver EHS training, employee engagement, and safety awareness programs, including safety committees, behavior-based safety initiatives, and compliance education, to strengthen employee knowledge, participation, and commitment to a proactive safety culture.
- Conduct facility inspections, compliance audits, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Lead investigations of incidents, injuries, near misses, and environmental events using root-cause analysis methodologies.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities, including evacuation planning, First Aid, HazMat response, and emergency drills.
- Administer key safety programs such as:
- Respiratory Protection
- Hearing Conservation
- Hazard Communication
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Contractor Safety
- Industrial Hygiene Monitoring
- Risk Management Programs
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and site leadership to integrate EHS principles into daily operations and projects.
- Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement.
- Manage regulatory reporting, permits, compliance documentation, and communications with regulatory agencies as required.
- Support sustainability initiatives focused on waste reduction, pollution prevention, resource conservation, and environmental performance improvement.
- Lead employee engagement activities including safety committees, awareness campaigns, and behavior-based safety programs.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations during capital projects, process changes, and new equipment installations to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, South Carolina environmental regulations, and applicable corporate requirements.
- Support and maintain integrated management systems including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
- Serve as a visible champion for Sandvik's safety culture and core value.
What You Bring
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health, & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or related environment.
- Working knowledge of:
- OSHA General Industry Standards (29 CFR 1910)
- EPA Regulations (40 CFR)
- DOT Regulations (49 CFR)
- Experience leading incident investigations and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and industrial hazard controls.
- Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence all levels of an organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Requires current authorization to work in the United States. Sandvik cannot provide employment-based visa sponsorship for this role, now or in the future.
- This role is based on site in Westminster, SC. Remote or international work arrangements are not available.
- Relocation assistance is not provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications such as STS, GSP, ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Experience with industrial hygiene monitoring, hazardous materials management, and emergency response programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software systems.
