We are seeking an ambitious, motivated, and results-oriented individual to join our team as Warehouse Manager.
The role reports to the Logistics Manager and is based in our offices in Gaborone, Botswana, overseeing operational warehouses throughout the country.
Purpose of the Role
Manage and continuously improve warehouse operations, with a focus on driving strategic initiatives for Logistics Services.
- Oversee all inbound and outbound warehouse operations and administration, including materials issuance and stock control.
- Ensure daily warehouse operations maintain professional standards and deliver effective customer service.
- Coordinate receipt, storage, and shipment of goods in line with established Sandvik global procedures and processes.
- Schedule receiving and shipping activities efficiently.
- Maintain compliance with import/export regulations, documentation control, and record-keeping.
- Uphold warehouse standards in accordance with company safety and facility requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to Sandvik policies and procedures while providing visible safety leadership.
- Develop, plan, and implement a warehouse management framework to ensure on-time deliveries.
- Document best practices and implement them across all warehouse and logistics functions.
- Design and optimize warehouse layout, storage, and processing areas for efficient space use.
- Drive process improvements across warehouse operations.
- Lead and support cost-reduction initiatives in collaboration with Indirect Purchasing.
- Manage sales orders to ensure timely dispatch to internal and external customers.
- Proactively replenish fast-moving stock to prevent availability gaps.
- Develop and enforce inbound/outbound warehouse procedures.
- Maximize operational efficiency to maintain high productivity.
- Oversee infrastructure and equipment for seamless daily operations.
- Plan daily deliveries in alignment with performance targets.
- Maintain warehouse stock accuracy and ensure minimal stock shrinkage.
- Conduct daily cycle counts, stock verifications, audits and identify root causes and provide countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.
- Manage wall-to-wall stock counts per company guidelines.
- Identify obsolete/non-moving stock and collaborate with Inventory Manager for resolution.
- Foster effective interaction with internal stakeholders: Order Desk, Inventory, Pricing, Compliance, Finance, HR, Freight, etc.
- Minimize financial risk through robust warehouse processes (e.g. proof of delivery/collection, goods return, credit issues).
- Control and report on daily warehouse costs.
- Maintain facility cleanliness and ensure proper upkeep and maintenance.
People Management
- Build a sustainable workforce through succession planning and continuous development.
- Provide coaching and direction to maintain a high-performing team culture.
- Manage team productivity, performance, and development actions.
- Support continuous improvement projects in collaboration with the Operational Performance Team.
EHS Responsibilities
- Ensure strict adherence to Sandvik's safety, health, and environmental standards.
- Lead daily activities with a proactive safety mindset.
- Comply with the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) management system and meet target benchmarks.
- Promote and live the Sandvik SHE culture.
- Drive safety awareness and performance in alignment with corporate compliance standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Warehousing/Distribution/Supply Chain, 5 years in a warehouse management role.
- A mining or engineering environment will be an advantage.
Additional Requirements & Competencies
- Deep understanding of warehouse operations, processes, and systems.
- Experience with equipment and aftermarket parts fulfilment is an advantage.
- Knowledge of business requirements that improve availability and delivery performance.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficient in warehousing KPIs and process improvement strategies.
- Highly self-sufficient and collaborative team player.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Capable of interpreting data via applicable software systems.
- Effective at people engagement and influencing toward desired outcomes.
- Customer-focused with a passion for delivering world-class service.
- Skilled in prioritization and time management.
- Availability to handle matters outside normal working hours.
- Valid driver's license.
