Recognition for innovative and sustainable solutions
A totally re-engineered parting and grooving system that has revolutionized the tool industry, Corocut® 2, was awarded this year’s Wilhelm Haglund Medal to the Product Developer of the Year”. The “Sandvik Sustainability Award in Memory of Sigrid Göransson” went to a joint initiative from Vericut and Seco that boosts sustainability in machining.
Upgraded technology with Corocut® 2
Corocut® is a versatile parting and grooving system, often used in profiling and cutting off operations and it has been a successful and appreciated product in the Sandvik portfolio for more than 20 years. To keep up with technical and functional developments since its introduction, Sandvik Coromant has developed the upgraded CoroCut 2, a product that has received very positive feedback from customers.
At the 2025 Sandvik Annual General Meeting, Claes Andersson, Gunnar Jansson, Erik Glans and Carl-Fredrik Carlström received the prestigious Wilhelm Haglund medal for their work with the updated platform.
The re-engineered system consists of several innovations and offers benefits such as improved stability, flexibility, and significant productivity gains. The new grade is more wear-resistant and tough which leads to a prolonged tool life. Corocut 2 was launched in 2022 and has since outperformed previous solutions and shown impressive growth.
Efficiency through NC optimization
The winners of the Sandvik Sustainability Award in Memory of Sigrid Göransson were also announced at the General Meeting in April. It went to Jodie Cosby, Scott Ravenscroft, David Magnall, and Luke Manders from Sandvik Manufacturing and Machining Solutions for an initiative that has boosted sustainability in machining.
By optimizing numerical control (NC) programs using Vericut® Optimizer software manufacturers can reduce cycle times, energy consumption, and tool wear. In tests, the solution reduced machine energy consumption by 18% and showed a substantial increase in tool life.
“The combination of software and sustainability make this solution particularly interesting,” says Mats W Lundberg, Head of Sustainability. “I believe digital solutions and new technologies will have an increasing impact on creating more sustainable solutions for the future.”
The stand-alone software is easy to adopt and suitable for manufacturers of all sizes. Combined with Seco’s efforts to improve product circularity, the solution helps customers operate more efficiently and sustainably. The recognition highlights how collaboration and innovation can enable real, measurable progress across the machining industry.
