ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functional / Technical Abilities

  • Ensure approval of all POs have been attained from appropriate manager based on the DSI policy and approval structure.
  • Ensure the request and expected dates on POs are current and accurate to the vendor delivery confirmation.
  • Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services, and/or special tools.
  • Leads and participates in the development of specifications for services, equipment, products, supplies or substitute materials
  • Organizes and implements strategies to accomplish business sourcing programs consistent with company guidelines.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Completes other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Communication

  • Support relevant departments with quotations for the purpose of tenders.
  • Coordinates the planning and purchasing of inventory items in accordance to the set production schedule to meet delivery dates. Ensure any changes to delivery dates are communicated to planning in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinates as appropriate, quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
  • Report vendor performance to management monthly.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism when dealing with staff and other departments within DSI, customers and visitors
  • Act as mentor and assist in training of Purchaser I and Purchaser II.

Decision Making

  • Source for new parts, suppliers or sub-contractors when the need arises.
  • Approve payment/tariff codes to customer brokers.
  • Review and sign off on freight charges for incoming purchases.
  • Studies market prices and trends, engineering developments and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned responsibilities and advises company activities with concurrence of management.
  • Attend to work activities that are complex and rely on accuracy, impact further procedures, and affect the overall efficiency, costs, and service quality of the company.

Inventory / Inventory Control

  • Arrange for submission and inspection of sample products as required.
  • Support quality personnel with non-conforming purchased items to determine disposition and resolution.
  • Monitors inventory levels and coordinates inventory purchases to meet inventory levels set by the company.
  • Develop measurements to monitor vendor-delivery performance.
  • Visit supplier’s facility to qualify them as new sources and assists in the resolution of production, design, quality and/or delivery problems.

Negotiating

  • Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
  • Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics, inventory control management, negotiates prices and delivery terms with guidance from a purchasing manager for assigned responsibilities.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • SCMP designation (preferred, but not required).
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in supply chain and procurement or Business, or seven (7+) years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Personal computer skills, mainframe operations as relates to procurement, related software, and knowledge of purchasing/accounting processes required.
  • Related software and knowledge of purchasing/accounting processes.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of DSI’s technology or equivalent industry (preferred, but not required).
