Machining Modelling and CAM Specialist
At Sandvik, we believe in finding that perfect mix between work, family life and interests, and we happily support our employees in balancing this. For us, it’s also clear that diversity of experience, perspective and background forms an amazing foundation for achieving great results. You work in an agile environment, alongside machining specialists, product owners, software developers, architects, testers, and of course our customers. We take an incremental approach to product development, where user feedback is a key enabler for both speed and ability to deliver the ultimate customer experience.
At Digital Machining within Sandvik Coromant, we’re now looking for a Machining Modelling and CAM Specialist to join our R&D team in Västberga, Stockholm. This is a great opportunity for a problem solver to develop and progress in an international environment, working with state-of-the-art solutions that revolutionize the machining industry. Do you want to take part in our digitalization journey? Then keep reading!
In this position, you contribute to the digitalization of the industry by developing different models to help us understand and meet the need of our customers.
Your work includes:
- Developing simulations for performance and cost of machining processes that can be implemented into our software applications
- Developing mechanistic models for areas such as cutting forces, machine surface finish, cutting tool stability as well as tool and workpiece deflection
- Developing cost modelling tools that allows for optimum cutting processes to be selected based on different customer scenarios.
- Working in close collaboration with backend software developers to successfully ensure that these can be implemented and industrialized
- Working closely with other data scientists to drive technology development and knowledge sharing – constantly moving us forward on our digitalization journey
We’re looking for someone with experience from developing efficient code for modelling machining physics, such as Matlab or Python, as well as CAD and CAM software experience. Your previous experience also includes cost modelling and optimization of machining processes, and you are familiar with the decision-making processes of a machining specialist. This include how to select optimum metal removal sequences, cutting data, cutting tools and tool path strategies, among other things. We also believe you have studied the fundamentals of machining processes and have a good understanding of process modelling, including areas such as chip formation, cutting tool geometry, temperature modelling and chatter vibration. As we operate in an international setting, this calls for excellent skills in English – both verbal and written.
As a person, we believe you are solution-oriented and like doing research and connecting different ideas together to find optimal, innovative solutions. You enjoy working in an agile environment and both independently and together with others. This includes your colleagues but also customers as well as other stakeholders across the business. Collaboration is key to us, which is why we also think you share our passion for it – sharing your knowledge with others whilst wanting to learn more.
At Sandvik Coromant, we believe that diversity of experience, perspective and background leads to a better environment for our employees, our business and our customers. If you’re curious to know more about us, we recommend a visit at our website or YouTube-channel. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
