Olle Wijk awarded Jernkontoret's grand gold medal

Professor Olle Wijk, long-standing employee at Sandvik, has been awarded Jernkontoret’s grand gold medal for extraordinary contributions to the development of the joint Swedish network for steel research. The medal has previously been awarded to Sandvik’s founder, Göran Fredrik Göransson.

Olle Wijk began his research career at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden at the beginning of the 1970s. In May 1980, he gained his Ph.D in Process Metallurgy before starting at Sandvik as Process Developer for metallurgy. For nine years starting in 1987, Olle Wijk held a Professorship in Applied Process Metallurgy at KTH. Olle Wijk returned to Sandvik in 1996, where he remained until his retirement in April this year. Between 2005 and 2012 he was Head of R&D for business area Sandvik Materials Technology as well as for the entire Sandvik Group for the past few years.

Professor Olle Wijk's work devoted to the development of steel and the Swedish steel research network has been noted by many. For example, he has also received KTH's gold medal for industrial collaboration and been appointed Visiting Professor at Shanghai University in China.
