Sandvik Mexico commits to the environment
Sandvik Mexico has celebrated its 5th Annual Reforestation project for the benefit of "Arcos del Sitio". This is just one example of Sandvik's many local sustainability activities worldwide.
Sandvik has celebrated its 5th Annual Reforestation project for the benefit of "Arcos del Sitio" an ecological reserve located in Tepotzotlán, State of Mexico. Employees' families were also involved in the yearly event which, with the support of the local residents of San Francisco Magú, on this occasion resulted in the planting of 900 trees.
Combined with such events over the previous 5 years, this adds up to a total of 5,000 trees and represents one of many ways in which the group actively contributes to the recovery of the ecological balance. The project also contributes to regional biodiversity, helps to prevent soil erosion and improves air quality for Mexico city, just 40 kilometres away – forests are often referred to as "the lungs of the earth".
Once the trees are planted, Sandvik and the local community share responsibility for their care and survival.
Alongside this environmental commitment, Sandvik is also working to promote the preservation of the Xalpa aqueduct, a magnificent work of hydraulic engineering dating back to the 18th century and considered of historical importance. At 61 meters, it is the highest aqueduct in Latin America, with a total length of 41,900 meters.
Sandvik is committed to the protection and preservation of natural, social and economic resources within the communities in which we operate, promoting a culture of responsibility and consciousness towards care of the environment amongst our employees and their families.
