October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the United States. To show support, the Sandvik Alachua crew gave a drill rig that is parked outside the facility in Alachua, Florida, a makeover.
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) was founded in 1985 with the aim of promoting mammography.
In 1993, Evelyn Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of the Estée Lauder Companies founded The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and established the pink ribbon as its symbol. This symbol is probably the most known international symbol for breast cancer awareness.
"It's about being part of the community. Breast cancer affects us here and around the world. We want to be a part of that global awareness", says Ken Stapylton, Site Director and Vice President for Surface Drills at Sandvik Alachua.
