Change in the Supervisory Board of Walter AG

Franco Mambretti will resign as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Walter AG as of 3 November 2004.

Deputy Chairman Dr. Frank Heintzeler will assume his position until further notice. Dr. Heintzeler has been a member of the Supervisory Board since 1994 and has served as Deputy Chairman of the Board since 1999.

Mr. Mambretti is the grandson of the founder of Walter AG and was president of the company from 1965 until 2002 when he became Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Franco Mambretti made a major contribution to Walter's worldwide success. Under his management, many subsidiaries were established worldwide. He played an important role in the integration of Walter into the international Sandvik Group and thereby ensuring the continued growth of the former family-owned company.
