We are seeking a UG Superintendent for the Oyu Tolgoi site.

Underground Superintendent – Mobile Maintenance is responsible for leading, planning, and controlling all underground mobile equipment maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation. The role ensures high equipment availability and utilization while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards. The Superintendent provides strong leadership to maintenance teams and works closely with operations, engineering, and supply chain to support underground production targets.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Lead and promote a strong safety culture aligned with company, regulatory, and site safety standards

  • Ensure all mobile maintenance activities comply with mining safety regulations, OEM standards, and company policies

  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations

  • Ensure maintenance teams are properly trained, competent, and authorized to perform assigned tasks

Maintenance & Asset Management

  • Maintenance of underground mobile equipment, including LHDs, trucks, drills, bolters, and support equipment

  • Ensure effective implementation of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs

  • Monitor equipment condition, availability, and reliability, and take corrective actions as required

  • Coordinate major overhauls, rebuilds, and component change-outs with minimal production disruption

  • Ensure accurate maintenance records, work orders, and asset history are maintained in the CMS

Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and manage short- and long-term maintenance plans aligned with production schedules

  • Coordinate maintenance activities with UG Operations to minimize downtime and optimize fleet performance

  • Manage shutdowns and planned maintenance activities effectively

  • Review and optimize maintenance strategies based on equipment performance data

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors, planners, tradespeople, and contractors

  • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews

  • Support workforce development, training, and succession planning

  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team

Cost & Resource Management

  • Manage maintenance budgets, labor, parts, and contractor costs

  • Optimize spare parts inventory in collaboration with supply chain and warehouse teams

  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or reliability

  • Review maintenance KPIs and implement improvement plans

Stakeholder Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with UG Operations, Engineering, Logistic and Customer

  • Prepare and present regular reports on maintenance performance, KPIs, risks, and improvement initiatives

  • Participate in technical reviews, audits, and continuous improvement projects

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred)

  • Trade qualifications with extensive underground mobile maintenance experience considered

Experience:

  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in underground mining mobile maintenance

  • At least 3–5 years in a team Leader Supervisor or Superintendent-level role

  • Strong experience with underground mobile mining equipment and OEM maintenance systems

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and people management skills

  • Excellent knowledge of underground mobile equipment and maintenance best practices

  • High level of safety awareness and risk management capability

  • Strong planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management

  • Proficiency in SAP, maintenance planning tools, etc.
