Sandvik Mining is looking for a Senior Commercial and Contract Manager

Sandvik Mining is a business area within the Sandvik Group and a leading global supplier of equipment, tools, service, and technical solutions for the mining industry.

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Commercial and Contract Manager is responsible for driving consistent commercial and contractual practices across the Sales Area. This includes ownership of key Commercial Processes and Commercial Operations (Quote Approval, Contract Approval, Contract Modification, Contract Termination) and the development of framework agreements to streamline business transactions. The role also leads the preparation and submission of large, complex tenders and supports high-stakes negotiations with sophisticated customers. Additionally, the role acts as a commercial interface with legal, managing workload and documentation to reduce legal bottlenecks—without making legal determinations.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess risks and lead the development and submission of large-scale, complex tenders, ensuring alignment with commercial strategy and risk appetite.
  • Manage and support high-value negotiations with sophisticated and strategic customers, ensuring optimal commercial outcomes.
  • Determine how to best engage with new business to minimize commercial risk and maximize profitability.
  • Manage the development and maintain standard quotation/proposal/contract templates to ensure consistency and mitigate commercial and legal risk.
  • Function as a key liaison with legal teams, managing commercial documentation and processes to reduce legal workload while ensuring legal decisions remain with qualified counsel.
  • Support Local Framework Agreement implementation.
  • Approve commercial deviations in new quotations, ensuring cross-functional compliance.
  • Manage and conduct formal risk assessments of contracts (new and amended) across the region.
  • Evaluate long-term profitability, viability and risk of proposed deals, – query logic, ensure business cases are comprehensive and an accurate reflection of projected invoicing and COGS levels – this includes any bundled (more than one Product Line or sub-Product Area) deals, which require unbiased assessment of overall risk/benefits to Sandvik Mining
  • Ensure all relevant global stakeholders are engaged in the review process.
  • Coach Sales Areas to improve approval timelines and submission quality.
  • Participate in and lead customer negotiations.

EDUCATION

  • University Degree, preference to Legal or Business degree(s)

EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of experience with contractual documents and commercial management.
  • 5+ years of experience in the mining industry (or related sectors, such as construction or oil & gas).
  • Proven track record in leading large, complex tender submissions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage negotiations with sophisticated customers.
  • Experience supporting legal teams by managing commercial workload and documentation.
  • Strong skills in commercial risk assessment, negotiation strategy, and execution.

  • Strategic Tender Management: Expertise in structuring, managing, and submitting large-scale tenders with cross-functional input.
  • Complex Negotiation Tactics: Ability to lead negotiations with multinational or highly sophisticated clients, including public sector or joint ventures.
  • Contract Lifecycle Management: Deep understanding of end-to-end contract processes, from initiation through renewal or termination
  • Financial Modeling & Deal Structuring: Ability to interpret and influence deal profitability, cash flow, and risk exposure.
  • Risk Mitigation & Scenario Planning: Skilled in identifying commercial risks and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Business Case Development: Strong capability in building and evaluating business cases for strategic deals.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven ability to coordinate with legal, finance, operations, and sales to align commercial outcomes.
  • Legal Interface Management: Skilled in managing legal workload boundaries—knowing when to escalate and how to prepare documentation to streamline legal review.
  • Influencing Without Authority: Ability to drive decisions and alignment across teams without direct reporting lines.
  • Coaching & Mentoring: Experience in upskilling sales or commercial teams in contract literacy and negotiation readiness.
  • Cultural Intelligence: Comfortable working across geographies and cultures, especially in global or regional roles.
