R&D Manager, Testing

Surface Drilling Division within Sandvik Mining is global provider of various state of the art drilling solutions such as Top Hammer and Down-The-Hole drill rigs designed and produced in Finland and India.

To further strengthen our focus on delivering industry leading solutions that meet our customers’ quality requirements, we are now looking for R&D Manager, Testing. The position is permanent and location is Tampere, Finland. This role reports directly to VP R&D and Product Management, Surface Drilling.

Your Mission

You will be responsible for developing test methods and testing capability to better meet future needs and reduce time and resources needed to verify product functionality and reliability. You will also coordinate the day-to-day work of our test engineers and test mechanics. You work closely with R&D, product management, and project management to determine testing methods and criteria to support our new product development. Building a long-term vision of our testing capabilities relating to personnel, facilities, and other resources will be one of your key areas of focus. You’re responsible for managing our test equipment fleet and customer site testing, including agreements.

You will also work with our key suppliers on developing testing capability to meet Sandvik requirements. You represent testing in new product development programs and are responsible for creating test plans, documenting test results, and providing status updates. You are actively looking to improve testing capabilities and work in cooperation with our sales areas to engage customers as part of our validation and testing process.

Your skills and capabilities:

  • Good understanding of machine, component, and subsystem testing and how to create suitable test setups
  • Good documentation skills and the ability to manage testing related data such as test reports and large amounts of testing data
  • Understanding of hydraulic and electrics systems as well as knowledge of heavy machinery recommended, but not required
  • Good organizing skills and ability to manage & lead a team of highly competent specialists
  • Process development driven person
  • Supervisory experience is not necessary but seen as a benefit
  • Prior knowledge of drilling application and/or mining application seen as a benefit

Your background and what we find important

Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders are essential.
