The Digitalization and Automation team at Sandvik’s Research and Technology Development is seeking an experienced, proactive, and results-oriented Digitalization Specialist with a collaborative attitude to join our team based in Myllypuro, Tampere, Finland. We are part of the Technology Development and Services organization within the Digital Mining Technologies Division, one of the ten divisions in Sandvik Mining. This role requires on-site presence at our factory and state-of-the-art test mine in Tampere, with the flexibility for partial remote work.
Your Role as a Digitalization Specialist at Sandvik, your core responsibilities include designing and implementing new digital solutions that run both on the edge of our mining machines and in the cloud. You will play a crucial role in advancing our roadmap for simulation capabilities, enabling rapid prototyping and the development of next‑generation digital solutions. You will work closely with key technologies such as digital twins, mobile machine UX and HMI, and digital systems that enhance machine‑fleet‑level safety—each contributing to increased automation at the mine sites of the future.
This role includes hands‑on integration, deployment, and testing of newly developed solutions in our state‑of‑the‑art Test Mine and Test Pit environments. You will also have the opportunity to validate your work using our cutting‑edge underground drilling and load‑and‑haul concept machines, Amelia and AutoMine® Concept, along with future visionary concept machines yet to come.
Key responsibilities:
- Leading projects involving mobile machine automation and digitalization.
- Maintaining and increasing the simulation capabilities for state‑of‑the‑art mobile work machine research and technology development.
- Managing the design and development of digital twins.
- Managing the design and development of state‑of‑the‑art user experience and human‑machine‑interface solutions.
- Managing the design and development of new safety solutions for mobile work machines and the operational infrastructure.
- Hands‑on integration, deployment, and implementation testing in the Sandvik Test Mine and Test Pit.
Background and skills:
- Suitable technical education (such as an M.Sc.) in engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in automation design and development.
- 3+ years of experience in deployment and testing of automation solutions.
- 3+ years of experience using simulators in automation/digitalization development.
- Experience in managing and coordinating outsourced projects.
- Experience in implementing digital twins, UX, or HMI solutions is preferred.
- Experience with Azure DevOps is preferred.
