Development Engineer – Autonomous Vehicle

Business Unit Automation is the home of AutoMine® - the world leading solution for autonomous mining. We are a global organization and develop fully automated and robotic mining technologies for mobile machinery with an aim to revolutionize the underground and surface mining industry.

We are now looking for an innovative and committed professional for our team. The position is based in Tampere, Finland at our home office in Tulli Business Park located in the city center.

Your role will concentrate on systems engineering level duties, designing the automation systems and integrations for vehicle control systems and other intelligent systems. The target products are our heavy-duty mobile machinery working in harsh mining environments. Your role will span from high-level autonomy to low-level base machine interface design and development where many challenges will put your skills to the test. Your role will also require hands-on attitude to support the testing team while the new solutions designed by you are either in simulation or in the real mining environments. You report to the AutoMine® Product Development Manager.

Your background and what we find important

  • understanding of guidance, navigation and control engineering, with a strong background in at least one of these systems

  • understanding of systems engineering principles; practical experience with MBSE is considered a plus

  • experience of practical implementation of embedded and distributed control systems (SW as well as HW)

  • knowledge or strong interest in heavy-duty wheeled mobile robotics

  • experience on hardware-in-the-loop simulation for highly modular autonomous systems

  • capable of problem solving and winning challenging tasks, not afraid of committing to targets

  • approaching solutions with innovative thinking and optimal utilization of available frameworks

Your profile

You have a relevant technical education (e.g., Master of Science), and prior experience working with the specified context. We value your experience of automation or mobile equipment development in an international business environment. You can specify, plan, and document your ideas and you have a proactive systematic and structured way of working. You have good verbal and writing skills in English.

You can establish strong professional relationships directly with relevant stakeholders and communicate with them at all levels. You understand wider business needs and find innovative solutions to complex problems. You can work proactively and systematically in a fast-changing business environment with a strong success focus. You have willingness to travel internationally.
