The position is in Sandvik’s Turku site, Finland which is the main product development and manufacturing center for our Load and Haul equipment but is a global position with opportunity to work other Sandvik sites such as Camarillo in California, USA. About the Charging Technologies Team
As an R&D Manager, you lead a team of 3-4 experts specializing in battery charging. The Charger team serves as a technology team for charging systems used on battery powered underground loaders and trucks. The development focus areas include power electronics system design, thermal management for electric components and batteries, control software, and use interface. Additionally, the team actively contributes to the development and support of BHEV technologies throughout the entire lifetime of the machines and batteries.
Your primary areas of responsibility
Managing the technology development activities in the areas of electrics, cooling, and software for the charger.
You are module system owner for the charging system module(s) and coordinate development work with both internal and external stakeholders.
Coaching and developing the team through excellent leadership skills.
Budgeting and capacity planning with resourcing for projects and activities.
Engineering tools and way of working development as well up-keeping the technology roadmap.
Ensuring health and safety through promotion of safe work practices, training, and compliance to safety policies.
You are one of the key enablers of exceeding the customer expectations for current and future Load and Haul product offering.
Position includes some project related travel (usually planned in advance).
Your background and what we find important
Knowledge and practical experience in battery charging and cooling design, covering functional descriptions, calculations, dimensioning, simulations, component selections, documentation/specifications, testing and verification.
Demonstrated experience in charging systems, power electronics, or related fields.
A proven record of leading an engineering or a project team with good results.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering.

Proactive and systematic way of working and excellent skills in problem-solving will be necessary.
