R&D Engineer, HVAC

We are strengthening our HVAC Team and we are looking for R&D Engineer. You’ll be at the forefront of developing next-generation HVAC technologies and you will work directly contribute to our mission of delivering high-performance, energy-efficient, and sustainable climate control solutions.

The position is in Sandvik’s Turku site which is the main product development and manufacturing center for our Load and Haul equipment. Partial remote work is possible in the role, however occasional travel and presence is required in our division headquarters in Turku.

Your primary areas of responsibility

  • Leading and contributing to R&D projects focused on HVAC system innovation including new product development and system optimization.

  • Conducting feasibility studies, simulations, and prototyping of HVAC components and systems.

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams across design, manufacturing, sourcing, and quality.

  • Analyzing system performance using CFD, thermodynamic modeling, and simulation tools.

  • Staying ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory standards (ISO, ASHRAE, etc.).

  • Preparing technical documentation, reports, and patent disclosures.

  • Leading and conducting environmental testing (vibration, dust, temperature extremes).

  • Supporting field testing, validation, and troubleshooting of HVAC systems.

Your background and what we find important

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Thermal Engineering (or related field).

  • Experience in HVAC system design, preferably for mobile or off-highway equipment.

  • Strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.

  • Proficiency in simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS).

  • Familiarity with HVAC standards and codes

  • Understanding of mobile HVAC components and packaging constraints.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Fluent English language skills preferred.
