Senior Subject Expert, CFD and FEM

At the new Rock Drills Technology Unit (TU), we’re on an exciting journey – we’re currently developing the next generation of top hammer rock drills and setting our future ambitions on how to build durable innovative solutions. As we continue moving forward, we’re now looking for a Senior Subject Expert to join us. This position provides a unique opportunity to combine two fields of physics to create state-of-the-art engineering solutions.

Your mission
In this position you get to work with Sandvik top professionals. As a Senior Subject Expert, your main scope of work is related to developing ways to compute challenging CFD and FEM related problems as well as to use those methods to tackle real life engineering problems. The aim of the New Product Development (NPD) activity is to broaden the product portfolio of Rock Drills TU. Current Product Engineering (CPE) work consists of customer interaction, measurements and efforts to create continuously evolving rock drill technology. Some Research and Technology Development (RTD) work will also be included in the scope.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • In co-operation with project managers and other experts: planning and executing CFD and FEM modeling and engineering in RTD, NPD and CPE projects

  • Development of simulation tools and methods

  • Participating in technology development and brainstorming

  • Measurements and related data analysis

  • Visualization of the results

  • Customer interaction and troubleshooting as backline support

This position is permanent and based in Myllypuro, Tampere, Finland. You report to the Manager for Research and Emerging Technologies, Rock Drills TU.

Your profile
We’re looking for someone with a Doctor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or other related field of study. You have previous experience in CFD and/or FEM modeling and have worked in the field for at least 5 years. Experience in technology development and knowledge of Ansys or Matlab tools is considered as an asset. As we operate in a global business, excellent communication skills in English are required. Skills and interest in mathematical thinking is needed in this role.

With an open personality and strong empathy, you communicate effectively by addressing matters in the right way and conveying new ideas clearly. You’re self-driven, have a positive attitude and with a structured approach, you get things done to achieve goals. You have excellent interpersonal skills, enabling you to manage stakeholders and collaborate with others.
