Production Technologist(Welder cum fitter)
Department: SMRT IPL - Assembly center
Reports To: Deputy Manager - Production
Location: Assembly Center, Dapodi, Pune
Key Responsibilities -
Perform welding and fabrication of components and structures as per drawings and specifications. Execute welding processes such as MIG / MAG, SMAW (Arc), and/or FCAW as applicable. Ensure proper joint preparation, material handling, and dimensional accuracy. Inspect welds visually and correct defects through grinding, rework, or repair welding. Follow welding procedures (WPS), quality standards, and safety guidelines. Operate fabrication tools and equipment including cutting machines, grinders, drills, and measuring instruments. Perform mechanical fitting, assembly, alignment, and troubleshooting of components and sub-assemblies. Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and work instructions. Ensure adherence to quality standards, safety guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Operating of overhead cranes,Jig cranes, Induction heater, aerial platforms, required tools for assembly, etc and ensure the visual health check of all these and report abnormalities to Maintenance and superior. Participate in Lean manufacturing initiatives such as 5S, Kaizen, waste reduction, and process improvements. Identify production issues and coordinate with engineering, quality, and maintenance teams for resolution. Support continuous improvement in productivity, efficiency, and cost reduction. Maintain proper documentation related to production activities and quality checks. Train or support junior technicians as required.
Required Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience in welding and fabrication. Sound mechanical fitter skills including alignment, assembly, and dimensional control. Knowledge of welding processes, consumables, and parameters for carbon steel and alloy steel. Ability to read and understand fabrication drawings and welding symbols. Basic understanding of Lean manufacturing concepts (5S, Kaizen, standard work, waste elimination). Read & Understand the engineering Drawings and SOP's Ability to use measuring instruments, hand tools, and power tools. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and shop-floor practices.
Behavioural & Soft Skills
Good communication skills (verbal and written). Positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production environment. Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail. Discipline in following safety, quality, and process standards.
Qualifications
Diploma / ITI in Welder, Fitter, or Mechanical Trade. Certified welder qualification is an added advantage.
Experience
2–5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, assembly, or production within the mining, construction equipment, heavy engineering or industrial machinery sector. Experience working with thick plates, structural components and heavy assemblies is preferred.
