Buffalo Tungsten was acquired in 2023 by the Sandvik group and organizationally belongs to the Powder Solutions division within business area Sandvik Machining. About the role:

The Maintenance & Engineering Manager will lead and manage the engineering and maintenance functions to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of all plant systems and infrastructure. Drive continuous improvement, implement innovative technologies, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. This role will be based at our site in Buffalo (Depew), New York.

Your background & profile:

Leadership & Management

  • Lead, supervise, and develop the maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct structured employee development and performance reviews.
  • Ensure effective communication across departments and shifts.
  • Represent the department in cross-functional meetings and ensure smooth shift transitions.

Maintenance & Operations

  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Ensure efficient, safe, and regulation-compliant maintenance planning and execution.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective maintenance strategies and annual plans.
  • Monitor and control maintenance budgets and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with production and planning teams for downtime planning and replacements.
  • Oversee maintenance, upgrades, and installation of onsite infrastructure (buildings, utilities, grounds)

Technical & Process & Optimization

  • Support process and automation improvements
  • Collaborate with production and planning teams to optimize equipment performance.
  • Integrate Lean Management principles (5S) into daily operations.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain production and inspection plans.
  • Support technical problem-solving and concept development.

Project & Resource Management

  • Lead engineering/maintenance projects from planning through execution.
  • Ensure adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Introduce innovative solutions and technologies to enhance operations.
  • Maintain documentation, including work instructions and process standards.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Implement and uphold the Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Stay updated on applicable standards and ensure their implementation.
  • Promote ethical and sustainable business practices in line with the Sandvik Code of Conduct.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering (or equivalent experience)

Master craftsman training or vocational technical education is a plus.

Experience

Minimum 5 years of technical experience in maintenance or engineering roles.

At least 3 years in a leadership or planning capacity.

Skills

Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in MS Office, CAD, and ERP systems (SAP preferred).

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Starting Pay Range: $95-115k
