We are seeking a Coast-to-Coast Mobile Rock Tools Technician to join our dynamic team at Sandvik, a leading global provider of high-quality mining equipment and Rock Tools.
The Mobile Rock Tools Service Technician plays a vital role in providing technical expertise and production support to Sandvik’s mining service locations across Canada. This is an exciting opportunity to travel extensively and apply your rock tools technical skills while delivering exceptional service to our valued clients.

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to sharpening and reconditioning of rock tools according to defined specifications, rebuilding of all hammer sizes, and sharing knowledge and safe work practices with peers.

What you will be doing

  • Repairs and maintains rock tools to defined specifications.
  • Maintains bit reconditioning report log and maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to address technical issues and provide efficient solutions when required.
  • Troubleshoot and provide technical recommendations and improvements to Supervisor, Sandvik service shops, equipment and tools.
  • Perform diagnostics, inspections, and component replacements as required to Sandvik equipment.
  • Reports occurrences that may indicate improper usage or selection by operators.
  • Completes accurate time records, technical reports, failure reports.
  • Stays current with industry, customer, product developments and technical best practices.
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively across Canada up to 75% of the time including working extended hours and shift work at remote sites.
  • Must be willing to travel with short notice (24 - 48hr notice) to sites when required.
  • Ensure adherence to safety guidelines and company policies during all service operations.
  • Provide on-site training to staff on preventative maintenance, SOP’s, and best practices to ensure consistency across sites.
  • Utilize computer-based systems to generate service reports and document findings.
  • Maintain inventory levels and records at sites, receiving of goods and proper recording.
  • Technicians will be responsible for hammer rebuilds of various sizes, bit sharpening, above and below ground deliveries and work shops, operation of all on site equipment, and pre-op inspections.
  • Complete and file technical reports on hammer rebuilds as defined by specific mine sites.
  • Direct supervision and leadership for site including RTTs while on shift.
  • Management and support of Vendor Management Inventory as required.

What you will bring along

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school education preferred
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge and skills are an asset
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and drawings is an asset
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated, broad team
  • Must be detail oriented and strive for perfection while performing all duties
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong listening skills
  • Ability to remain tactful in difficult situations
  • Flexible, self-motivated with demonstrated initiative
  • Ability to develop knowledge of customer business processes in relation to product reconditioning
  • Computer efficiency
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a customer-focused approach
  • Ability to work in diverse and harsh environments
  • Valid G driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Proficiency in both English and French is an asset
