About the Job

As Senior Engineer/Specialist at Alloy Design you’ll be part of a team of specialists and experts working together to reach the next level of material design. Our workplace is characterized by collaboration, spontaneous discussions and how our doors are always open. Our team’s expert competences include areas such as corrosion, mechanical properties, high temperature properties, welding metallurgy, thermodynamic modelling and advanced material analysis. Our role is to develop new alloying concepts based on new knowledge about microstructures, properties and processability of materials. Our projects include small scale material production and once we’ve developed a new material concept we hand it over to our colleagues in SMT:s divisions for continued product development and full scale production.

Your mission is to identify, drive and participate in projects and investigations in line with SMT:s strategic research plan. You’ll be representing Sandvik in external research projects in collaboration with institutes and universities. You present your results in meetings and steering groups but also in form of reports, articles and by participating in conferences.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a Master’s degree or a PhD within material design, material engineering, physics, mechanical engineering or equivalent. You have an interest in alloy development and a few years’ experience of product or process development of stainless steels and/or Ni-based alloys. Understanding of the relations between manufacturing process, microstructure and material properties is also highly relevant for us, along with material modelling and characterization.

We put great emphasis on your personal profile, which is characterized by passion as well as an analytical and problem-solving approach. Also, you have the ability to identify new project ideas, to critically review results and finish what you’ve started.
