JOB PURPOSE

The Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, documentation, and validation of system software for electric vehicles and various supporting tools. The ideal candidate possesses strong C/C++ skills, as well as the ability to: design programs and systems based on defined requirements; prepare program specifications; code, test, document, and debug software; interpret technical information relating to software development; and communicate effectively.

Education Level:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Software Engineering or a closely related discipline

Job Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5+) years of experience in related field

Skills/Special Training Required to Effectively Perform the Job:

  • Proficient knowledge and hands-on experience with C/C++ programming language required

  • Experience in software documentation, incl. writing functional specifications necessary

  • Shown ability to design, implement, solve problems, and validate complex system software

  • In-depth experience with Python 3 desired

  • A broad as well as deep understanding of cross functional engineering, development and design principles including knowledge of electronic hardware design, sensors and customer facing software is helpful

  • Experience with Qt platform for GUI development highly beneficial

  • Knowledge of CODESYS PLC programming platform would be a plus

  • Powertrain or vehicle software experience preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Design and development of control algorithms and support software for electric prototype machines

  • Responsible for HMI software development for new prototypes

  • Create and maintain infrastructure platform that facilitates continuous integration, automated builds, and automated build verification testing to support vehicle control systems and software solutions

  • Document system functionality in form of functional specifications

  • Remote diagnostics and troubleshooting, provide technical support to Field Service Specialists

  • Analyzes problems, designs algorithms and software to address these problems in a highly expeditious manner

  • Test work results with simulators, scripts, and on hardware

  • Adhere to tight and strict deadlines while maintaining quality and integrity of the product

  • Work as a member of an integrated, interdisciplinary product team to examine, discuss, and develop solutions to difficult/complex issues with both internal and external stakeholders (customers, suppliers, internal management, etc.)

  • Ensure that designs and documentation of components and systems meet specified technical customer demands, product safety, legislative requirements and internal demands

  • Contribute to overall profitability related to component design and continuous improvements on new and existing products

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Management

  • Excellent written and verbal technical communications skills

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required (max. 10%)
