The Product Engineer - NPD is responsible for maintaining the assigned product model(s) design layout throughout the product development stage. The Product Engineer is responsible for the machine configuration and to ensure the integration of all sub-systems by working with system vertical resources. The Product Engineer’s ultimate responsibility is to ensure the product maintains high quality and market competitiveness. The Product Engineer also has sole technical and product configuration responsibility for the assigned product(s).

Key Performance Areas

​· Maintain the overall design layout

· Maintain technical alignment and coordination with the engineering staff and other departments, including, but not limited to Production, Purchasing, Sales and Customer Service

· Implement product improvements and quality issues from CPI process on new product model

· Ensure the component/system strategy is maintained for the products

· Create /approve ECNs for assigned product(s) as needed for engineering releases

· Implement common solutions across product models by working closely with component/system lead

· Perform and approve design calculations to ensure the design meets the requirements

· Lead and own product cost structure as well as cost reduction projects

· Collaborate closely with Project Manager throughout project(s) to meet or exceed targets

· Lead/manage team, assign tasks, and mentor junior engineers in technical aspects

· Drive efficiency of product assembly of the product and reduce build time

· Collaborate with remote resource pools and engage resources as needed

· Visit mine sites to gain deeper understanding of the application(s) and customer needs

· Ensure product bill of material is ready for prototype and serial production according to the project model; maintain BOM of the assigned product(s)

· Work in compliance with the Sandvik safety management program

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. MS in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. At least 5 years of practical experience in engineering. Experience in coaching and or leading people is preferred

Required Skills / Competencies:

· 3D CAD package proficiency (NX preferred)

· MS Productivity suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

· Working within PDM system (Teamcenter)

· Good understanding of common engineering standards for mobile equipment product development (design & drafting, GD&T)

· Ability to perform FEA (Ansys) or interpret results for decision making

· Teamwork and clear communication skills

· Knowledge of machine design and understanding machine steel fabrications, manufacturing techniques, and processes for mobile equipment

· Application knowledge of mobile equipment, preferably in drilling equipment

· Excellent communications skills: fluent in English, both written and verbal

· Comfortable working in a high-performance culture and team setting with demanding cycle times

· Able to travel as needed
