Sandvik Special Metals, (SSM) a production unit in the Sandvik Group, is a leader in manufacturing of seamless titanium tubing used in the aerospace and recreational markets, and zirconium tubing used in the nuclear industry. We have an immediate opening for an Engineering Manager located in Kennewick, WA. In 2018 the Sandvik Group had over 41,000 employees in 130 countries and revenues of about $12.5B.
The Engineering Manager provides overall technical leadership for the Company. This entails management of the Engineering resources for continuous improvement in the tube manufacturing process and equipment as well as new product development. Customer technical support and collaborative R&D within the Sandvik organization and industries utilizing SSM products.
Develop Products for New and Existing Markets
Provide technical leadership to meet Company strategic objectives on new product sales. This includes project scope, planning organization, and allocation of resources (personnel and project funding). Maintain an ongoing list of potential emerging new products for future consideration based on SSM core competency and effort-impact.
Process Improvement Initiatives
Provide technical leadership to meet Company strategic objectives for continuous process improvement. This includes project scope, planning organization, and allocation of resources (personnel and project funding). Maintain an ongoing list of potential improvement projects supplied by the SSM Employees.
Measure - Project completion rate, project completion delivery performance, project effectiveness (varies with specific objective.
Process Engineering and Operational Support
Provide technical support for product management including the order entry process, technical and trouble-shooting guidance for Production and support in process documentation.
Maintenance and Equipment
Provide technical and managerial leadership to maintain SSM equipment and facility to minimize the risk on operation, safety, and environment. Establish strategic plan to continuously improve equipment and facility based on Company strategic objectives.
Customer Technical Support
As-required, provide technical support to SSM internal and external customers including problem resolution, technical presentations, technical exchanges, and collaborative development activities.
Important role on SSM management team to establish short-term and long-term strategic objectives and plans.
Direct and coach the engineering team for result oriented performance and drive continuous improvement in core competency.
Manage the engineering and team by establishing the overall direction, set and follow-up on objectives and tasks. Supervisor responsibility includes administration within corporate and company policies and applicable laws including hiring, reward, and discipline
Acting VP and associate duties to satisfy corporate requirements.
All employees are responsible for participating, supporting, and maintaining compliance to the company’s Quality, Environmental, and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems, policies, procedures, programs, and activities as defined within the company’s management system documentation.
8-10 years of engineering experience in manufacturing field; preferably in the metal tubing industry. Knowledgeable in non-ferrous metals and metal forming principles is beneficial. 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
Bachelor degree preferably in metallurgical, chemical or mechanical engineering.
LICENCES & CERTIFICATES
PE license desirable
Ability to Travel and represent SSM at technical conferences and meetings. Work in standard office conditions and on the production floor to trouble-shoot or perform specific development testing.
