US Retirement Benefits Specialist

($65k to $87k, depending upon experience)

We are seeking a skilled US Retirement Benefit Specialist to join our dynamic team in Mebane, NC. The Retirement Benefit Specialist will be responsible for assisting our employees in understanding and optimizing their retirement benefit plans. This role requires a strong understanding of retirement planning principles relating to pension, 401k and the retiree medical plan. Excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide personalized guidance to our employees is essential.

In this role you will be responsible for assisting with the administration of all US benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short/long-term disability, voluntary benefits, rewards programs, 401(k) and Pensions.

Key responsibilities and essential duties include:

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of Sandvik's US retirement benefit plans, including 401(k), pension, and other retirement savings accounts.
  • Administer benefit programs across the full range of benefits offered in the US including eligibility, reporting and compliance
  • Analyze retirement plan documents and provide detailed explanations of plan features, options, and benefits.
  • Coordinate the retirement process for eligible employees and pensioners and support the onboarding process for new hires as it relates to benefits elections.
  • Provide administration support to Holding Company for all Pensioners and Term Vested employees
  • Responsible for any benefits filing generated by enrollments, as required, verification of benefits coverage status in benefits system
  • Develop communications and mailings as needed by the company regarding benefit updates or updates needed to the Benefits Portal
  • Correspond with employees regarding elected benefits to ensure accuracy
  • Interact with employees/retirees daily around questions with claims or general inquires around benefit plans provided
  • Preparation for employee’s service and retirement awards
  • Processing of life event claims
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve complex client issues and ensure a seamless client experience.
  • Keep informed about changes in retirement benefit regulations and industry trends, and proactively communicate updates to clients.


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Finance, accounting, business administration, HR or a related field an HR arena with benefits exposure
  • Minimum 2 years HR experience working in Benefits Administration
  • Strong knowledge of retirement benefit programs, including 401(k), pension, and Social Security.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex retirement plan documents.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
  • Knowledge of Customer Service Concepts and techniques; ability to meet and exceed customer needs and expectations while providing service in a direct and indirect manner
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with individuals and groups at all levels.
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Advanced Excel skills is a plus
  • Bi-lingual English – Spanish a plus
  • Workday experience is a plus
