Sandvik Mining & Rock Solutions (SMR) is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, services and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. Our application areas include rock drilling, rock cutting, crushing & screening, loading, & hauling, tunnelling, quarrying, and breaking & demolition. To our Rock Tools division and to our production plant at Pune, we are now looking for a Safety Officer to join us

Your Scope:

Ensuring safe work at site through workplace inspections, audits, organizing the workplace with 5S tools, identifying the hazards, risk assessment, analyzing of risk and implementation of solution and closure of hazards. Actively engage with all levels in the company towards zero harm. Expertise in risk assessment, redoing and continuously improving our risk management SOP’s. Complying the EHS requirements according to factory act.

To be more specific, your main responsibilities to handle in this position are

  • Member of all site EHS committees- role holder will act as link for the safety committee shop floor meetings, take notes, action and report back to the shop floor.
  • Tracking, renewal of all legal licenses (MPCB, Fire NOC, PCMC industrial license, DISH, ETC.)
  • Ontime submission of returns for MPCB, EPR, factory inspector reporting.
  • Driver of monthly safety & 5S campaigns, Continuous improvement in waste reduction, co2 reduction, and working to find new engineering controls to reduce the Risk.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of safety talks, toolbox talks and training through audits.
  • Inspect and assess the risk at the workplace prior to issuing a work permit.
  • To meet the periodical statutory requirements of lifting equipment & tackles, pressure vessels etc.
  • Conducting periodical checks on gas lines, gas cylinders, manifolds, banks for safe conditions.
  • Periodic inspection of hydrant pipelines, valves, equipment, controls of fire hydrant system.
  • Carry out risk assessment for each hazard, near miss and actual incidents in EHS 360.
  • To be part of investment procurement team for identifying risks and developing solutions.
  • Prioritizing hazards, identifying effective actions and performing the same within specified timeline.
  • Coordination with site safety common areas and aligning the actions
  • Co-ordinating all types of waste disposals with Stores.
  • EHS Audit compliance & follow-up for PU.
  • Responsible for all safety related compliance as an appointed Safety Officer under section 40B of the Factories Act 1948 and Maharashtra Safety Officers rules 1982.
  • FM global audit, sustainability audit & global EHS audit compliance
  • Maintaining Visitor PPE’s, First Aid boxes, Fire extinguishers & drinking water dispensers.
  • co-ordination fumigation & insecticide spraying for pest control
  • Imparting training for new Joiners, Induction training to probationers, trainees & visitor shop visits.
  • Arrange & monitor Safety Walks, EHS trainings & EHS project follow-up.
  • Supporting business functions to act effectively in their core area by taking and ensuring safety requirements.

Your profile

  • An Engineering graduate with minimum 8-10 years of experience in managing Industrial Safety from MNC.
  • Candidate should hold certification/Advance diploma on Industrial Safety from Maharashtra state board
  • A Lead Auditor in ISO 14001, ISO 45000 in latest versions.
  • Worked as Management Representative for ISO Management Systems
  • Hands on Computer Skills in MS Office
  • Should have good written and oral communicational skills in Marathi (Local Language) English and Hindi.

Required Competencies:

  • Certified Safety engineer
  • Conversant with Factory rules and relevant exposure to MPCB acts.
  • Competent to identify RISKS/hazards
  • Flexibility to work as per the organizational needs.
  • Be a role model to everybody.
  • Knowledge of machine tools and heat treatment.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Able to engage with all levels at site
  • Able to discuss with suppliers, external agencies.
  • Be self-motivated and able to motivate the team.
  • Exhibit good and timeous decision making.
