Job Purpose

An Automation Technician manages the AutoMine system’s regular operation and conducts preventive maintenance and repairs, including:

  • Configure and setup new machines in the AutoMine system
  • Calibrate AutoMine machines and test automation functionality
  • Manually operate heavy mining machinery
  • Perform software updates on the AutoMine system
  • Perform software installs on the AutoMine onboard components
  • Maintain AutoMine map versions
  • Maintain the AutoMine MineLAN network
  • Conduct system (including onboard equipment) audits
  • Analyze log files and perform routine system maintenance

An Automation Technician is critical in ensuring the AutoMine system is well-maintained, operational, and running smoothly. By doing so, the Automation Technician helps to reduce downtime, increase productivity, and maintain a safe working environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining safe on-site operations. This involves following safety protocols and ensuring that all maintenance and repair work is done safely and securely to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries.
  • Providing on-site maintenance and repair services to support daily operations. This involves responding to maintenance and repair requests, troubleshooting problems, and conducting necessary repairs to keep the automation system operational.
  • Checking the AutoMine system according to the preventive maintenance schedule and checklists. This involves conducting regular inspections, identifying potential issues, and taking corrective action to prevent breakdowns or failures.
  • Testing navigation software by taking logs and verifying machine functions and navigation.
  • Keeping and updating the change log on system maps and work done by all persons involved in the AutoMine system.
  • Mentoring to reduce poor operating practices.
  • Resolve incidents related to AutoMine systems. This includes identifying issues, reporting problems through the issue management system, analyzing log files, and implementing workarounds and minor temporary fixes until a permanent solution is implemented.
  • Working closely with the AutoMine global product support during the implementation of automation software version updates, ensuring that the updates are installed correctly and that any issues that arise during the installation process are addressed promptly.
  • Operational support, including system configuration, automation infrastructure-related issues, task generation, workflow configurations, mine models, and other routines.

Your Profile – What We’re Looking For

  • Diploma or Degree in mechanical/ electrical engineering/mechatronics or automation / IT
  • Exposure to Mining, Construction or Engineering industries is essential;
  • Experience with automation systems in a technician role.
  • Electrical system troubleshooting.
  • TCP/IP network troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Office apps.
