YOUR MISSION

The Sr Electrical Engineer, High Voltage is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high voltage systems pertaining to mining drill rigs. Responsibilities include conducting research, designing high voltage equipment, performing system analysis, and ensuring safety standards. Our ideal candidate has a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, high voltage systems, and safety regulations associated with mining drill rigs and operating environment. Ultimately, the role of the High Voltage Electrical Engineer is to ensure the safe and effective operation of high voltage equipment and systems, in compliance with industry standards and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

The High Voltage Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high voltage systems (typical voltage in open pit surface mining drill rig 4.2-7.2 kV) pertaining to mining drill rigs.

Design and Development:

  • Designing, developing, and implementing electrical systems and controls for mining drill equipment and related infrastructure.

  • Creating and maintaining electrical schematics, layout drawings, and cable schedules, BOMs

  • Leading electrical design projects, including power distribution, panel design, grounding, and protection.

  • Keeping up to date with the latest industry developments and regulatory guidelines.

Installation and Maintenance:

  • Overseeing the maintenance of electrical systems, including high-voltage distribution, motor control centers, and switchgear.

  • Providing hands-on support during panel wiring, system installation, and field testing.

  • Maintaining control network equipment and ensuring it meets site specifications.

Troubleshooting and Support:

  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical issues to minimize downtime and ensure safety.

  • Providing technical support to improve operational efficiencies and addressing complex and non-routine issues.

  • Communicating with plant engineers and maintenance personnel on technical questions and specifications.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations, industry standards (e.g., NFPA, NEC, UL, ISO) and company policies.

  • Familiarity with CE certification for high voltage electrical system design.

  • Conducting regular safety audits and risk assessments.

  • Managing high voltage contractors' work scope and ensuring alignment with safety procedures.

Project Management and Collaboration:

  • Managing electrical engineering projects from concept through completion, including budgeting and scheduling.

  • Collaborating with various departments and stakeholders, including mechanical engineers, mine managers, and maintenance teams.

  • Providing technical guidance and training for maintenance personnel.

YOUR PROFILE

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Advanced degrees or professional engineering certifications, preferred.

  • High voltage system design certification is a plus.

  • 8+ years’ experience in related high voltage electrical system design and development for heavy equipment (preferably mining) systems.

Technical Expertise:

  • Familiarity with PLCs, CANbus, and Heavy equipment (preferably mining) electrical equipment.

  • Experience with high voltage components such as motors, transformers, control cabinet, switches, cables, and safety devices such as ground fault protection systems.

  • Experience with high voltage prototyping and builds may be required.

  • Experience with Office 365, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Power BI, Teamcenter, NX, Medusa and other engineering computer programs.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and best practices.

  • Working knowledge of drive systems for machine troubleshooting.

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot complex electrical systems and identify mitigation strategies.

  • Ability to perform computations and calculations involving electrical engineering.

Communication and Collaboration Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Adaptability to work in dynamic environments that may include site visits and fieldwork.
