Junior Design Engineer

We are looking for a ambitious motivated and innovative Junior Design Engineer to join our team.
The role will report into the Design Office Manager. The role will be based from our offices in Spartan, Kempton Park, Johannesburg.
Purpose of the role:
- Develop and design products, equipment and tools to be able to produce product that meets high quality requirements and performance standards. Analyses equipment specifications and process requirements to conceive a practical design.
The job responsibilities:
- Reviews product development requirements for compatibility with methods to determine cost and schedules.
- Integrates equipment and material capabilities to meet module target specifications and technology target specifications.
- Responsible for handing over method/process and equipment to production.
- Utilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
- Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety.
- Designs, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans; creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials.
- Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product.
- Ensures compliance with established industry safety and design standards and guidelines.
- Generating of mass estimates of products for tender proposals.
- Responsible to generate technical data packs for jobs, on time, containing detail drawings and engineering bill of materials (EBOM). Ensure all tolerances, machining, welding, material treatment etc. specifications are specified.
- Required to travel and meet with customers when needed. This includes taking measurements on-site.
- Ensure that all work conform to the required in-house modelling and detailing standards.
- Ensure sufficient checking of drawings and BOM’s to eliminate NCR’s.
- Participate in generating new in-house technical standards and training material.
- Develop and maintain engineering calculations to assist in product design where needed.
- Responsible to make suggestions on how products can be improved in terms of quality, pricing, and performance.
- Assist other departments when needed. For instance, accompany site visits or support the engineering group with CAD models for FEA etc.
- Assist in developing and maintaining engineering first principle calculations when needed.
- Consult with Lead Designer and Design Office Manager on new or changed designs before processing as jobs.
- Responsible to maintain an accurate electronic drawing office file structure of jobs to assist in as-built management and full traceability.
- ETO and R&D resources can be shared across teams on a case-by-case basis to support both regional and global functions based on workload and agreement between departmental managers.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
- BTech. or BEng. Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 0 to 2 years 3D CAD modelling and drafting experience in sheet metal fabrication industries including welding specifications. Preferably in Siemens NX or SolidEdge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
