Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description:

INROCK is one of the largest HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) tooling providers in the world headquartered in Houston, TX. We are currently recruiting for a Entry to Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team based out of Houston, TX.

Job responsibilities and duties:

  • Successful candidates should be self-starters, requiring minimal manager oversite in daily tasks
  • Self-ensure progress and completion of assigned tasks in a timely fashion, generally meeting or exceeding the proposed project schedule.
  • The desire to always be learning and sharing knowledge will be essential to the successful candidate.
  • The ability to ask questions and the desire to seek out solutions will be essential to the successful candidate.
  • Able to design parts, assemblies, and fixtures for Horizontal Directional Drilling tools and support equipment, based on requirements, sometimes without having examples to work from.
  • Help create and iterate modular design concepts that are interchangeable, common, scalable and manufacturable.
  • Opportunities to Design new solutions from first principals and validate though hand math (FBDs, static analysis, load calculations, fluid mechanics, etc.) and utilize FEA/FEM and CFD (with guidance from senior team members when necessary) to identify/minimize risks and optimize design solutions.
  • prototype functionality testing of designs to industry standards side by side of senior team members.
  • Designs should incorporate DFMA element and modular system elements wherever possible to ensure the most cost effective and scalable solutions when possible.
  • Help develop and release modular BOM’s and design documentation that facilitate the manufacturing order management process
  • Ability to access on-site machine shop facility/personnel to help “bridge the gap” between Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Report to the Senior Mechanical Engineer/Engineering Manager and report to the company regarding the status of each project.
  • Perform regular tests and experiments to determine how to better improve a component
  • Use CAD and 3D CAD programs to plan the mechanical design projects
  • Troubleshoot problems and devise solutions to resolve them
  • Research and keep up with the dynamic technology and trends in the mechanical design spectrum

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Preferred, Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.)
  • Mechanically inclined hobbies and/or prior experience working hands on with mechanical systems
  • Familiar with concepts of CAD, and ability to use one of the major CAD applications to create Models, Drawings and Schematics.
  • Knowledge in ASME Y14.5 and parametric 3D modelling practices.
