Automation is a business unit within Sandvik’s Mining business area. It’s home to AutoMine®, the world-leading solution for autonomous mining, Newtrax, a global leader in collision avoidance and operations management, and Universal Field Robots (UFR), a fast-growing provider of autonomous solutions for surface and underground mining.
Our hubs in Tampere (Finland), Montreal (Canada), and Brisbane (Australia) focus on developing advanced automation and robotic technologies for mobile machinery, along with safety solutions up to CAS Level 9. We work closely with the sales areas within business area Mining to deliver exceptional service and support to customers worldwide, and together, we’re shaping the future of mining!
Your mission
In this role, you lead Business Unit Automation’s strategic growth initiatives across our OEM Agnostic and Sandvik automation portfolios. Your mission is to identify, develop, and convert opportunities that strengthen our market position, drive revenue growth, and deepen our relationships with customers and partners.
You work in a cross functional manner with a dedicated team of Digital Sales and Services Representatives in our Sandvik sales areas who report to business line managers. Through influence, coordination, and strategic leadership, you ensure a unified and consistent approach to growth across all sales areas and geographies.
Included in your mission is to:
- Drive business development for new offering and develop new and innovative business models to drive sales growth in Sandvik sales areas. This includes but not limited to – Universal Field Robots, AutoMine Next Generation offering, and white spot development.
- Develop and execute a global business development strategy that aligns with the BU Automation strategy and long-term growth plans.
- Support the BU Automation management team in setting sales targets for business line managers.
- Support the setting of business development metrics, forecasts, target setting and reporting to provide transparency and accountability across the organization and to ensure accuracy in forecasting and high-quality reporting.
- Work in close collaboration with Sales Support and Strategy team on identifying new market segments, partnership opportunities, and technology integrations that enhance our competitiveness in the mining and heavy equipment industry.
- Build and nurture high-level relationships with mining customers, contractors, distributors, and strategic partners.
- Work in collaboration with the business unit’s global sales support team and the Business Line Managers across the Sandvik sales areas.
- Lead major opportunity pursuits — from identification and qualification through negotiation and contract closure.
- Collaborate across R&D, product management, aftermarket, and marketing to ensure our offerings align with customer needs and emerging market trends.
- Collaborate with other Sandvik Mining Divisions to accelerate business growth and to participate in bundle deals.
- Represent Automation at major industry conferences, exhibitions, and strategic forums to reinforce our position as a trusted mining solutions provider.
This position can be based in either Brisbane, Australia or Tampere, Finland, and requires global travel – up to 50%. You’re reporting to the Vice President of Automation and are part of the Business Unit Automation Management Team.
Your profile
A strong commercial background combined with deep knowledge of autonomous solutions and the mining industry is essential. Extensive experience in business development and strategic partnerships helps you navigate complex, high-value deals in capital equipment or technology solutions. Familiarity with Sandvik AutoMine and UFR offerings is a plus.
Working across international markets feels natural, and you’re confident in a matrix organization where priorities and resources span functions and regions. Strategic thinking and financial acumen are part of your toolkit, and you know how to structure deals that create long-term value. Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills in English are key.
