The Load & Haul Division, the home of Sandvik loaders and trucks for underground mining business. Here we are safer, stronger, and smarter, as we like to say it. We work in close co-operation with the sales areas within the Sandvik Mining Business Area, to provide the best possible service for our customers. Load & Haul home based in Turku, Finland. Additionally, we have operations in Camarillo, USA | Changzhou, China | Khomanani, South Africa as well in Seremban, Malaysia.
Job Purpose
The buyer is responsible for the execution of purchasing activities for heavy and light steel fabrication categories, ensuring timely material supply, supplier delivery performance, and compliance with company purchasing procedures.
This role focuses on post-purchase order execution, supplier coordination, and delivery follow-up to support uninterrupted production operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Purchasing Execution
- Manage end-to-end purchasing process including PR conversion, PO creation, and order placement
- Execute purchasing activities in accordance with approved sourcing decisions and company procedures
- Ensure timely PO release to meet production requirements
2. Supplier Coordination & Delivery Control
- Act as primary contact for fabrication suppliers on all purchasing execution matters
- Follow up on PO confirmations, delivery schedules, and supplier commitments
- Monitor and expedite overdue or critical orders to prevent production disruption
3. Production Support & Risk Management
- Monitor open orders and identify material shortages or supply risks
- Coordinate with Planning and Production to ensure material availability
- Escalate critical supply issues and propose mitigation actions
4. Supplier Performance Monitoring
- Track supplier delivery performance (e.g., on-time delivery, responsiveness)
- Drive corrective actions with suppliers to improve delivery reliability
5. Inventory & Demand Alignment
- Monitor inventory levels for fabrication parts
- Support demand-supply balancing and safety stock alignment
6. Engineering Change & Technical Coordination
- Support implementation of Engineering Change Notices (ECN)
- Coordinate with Engineering and Quality for specification changes and part approvals
- Ensure alignment with fabrication requirements and technical drawings
7. System & Data Management
- Maintain accurate purchasing data in ERP system (e.g., SAP, Ariba)
- Ensure traceability and compliance with audit requirements
- Support continuous improvement in purchasing processes and systems
8. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Planning, Production, Sourcing, and Quality teams
- Communicate material status, risks, and mitigation actions clearly
Requirements / Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 3–5 years of purchasing experience in manufacturing
- Experience in steel fabrication, welding, or machining environment preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong execution and follow-up capability
- Good understanding of fabrication processes and technical drawings
- ERP system knowledge (SAP preferred)
- Strong coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented and able to work under pressure
