The Job entails being responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing large machinery, vehicles, and equipment typically used in mining and construction industry.
Job description
The Heavy-Duty Repair Mechanic performs maintenance and repair work on heavy equipment and machinery to ensure they are safe, functional, and reliable. This includes troubleshooting mechanical issues, performing regular inspections, and replacing parts when needed. The mechanic works closely with operators to ensure equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
Work Conditions: Ability to work in various environments such as underground and open cast.
Job-specific responsibilities
- Conduct daily checks on equipment as per checklist, prevent and repair defects.
- Report all major defects to the Shift Supervisor.
- Fault find and repair equipment in line Sandvik Standards.
- Maintain equipment as per Sandvik maintenance manuals.
- Ensure that all relevant documentation (work order, Operator/ Mechanical/ productivity checklists) is completed as per set requirements.
- Ensure that all tools, workshop facility and equipment are used correctly and kept in good working condition.
- Report incident/accident and investigate damages to equipment.

Education
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Craft certificate or Advanced Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repair / or equivalent
Experience
- Three (3) years’ relevant experience in surface or underground mining environment
Other requirements
- Medical Certification to work in a mining environment.
- Engineering Institute of Zambia Membership.
- Clean driving
