Sandvik Mining & Rock Solutions (SMR) is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, services and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. To our Rock Tools division and to our Plant Engineering & Maintenance (PEM) department at Patancheru plant (Hyderabad), we are now looking for a Head – Plant Engineering & Maintenance and Manager under factory act (MUFA) to join us

Your Scope:

You will be responsible for the overall operative and strategic work within the plant engineering and maintenance operations along with legal role of manager under factories act for the production unit. This includes developing the operations & maintenance, EHS, projects and facility development of plant, driving cross-functional collaboration, continuous improvement initiatives, implementing best practices, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS):

  • As manager under factories act, ensure legal and all statutory compliances with site, environment, health, and safety standards as applicable for manufacturing site.
  • Oversee occupational health center (OHC) as per statutory requirements.
  • Implement and maintain best practices for safety and regulatory compliance. Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate Sandvik leadership model and adhere to Sandvik Core Values in day-to-day activities.
  • Manage and develop a high-performing EHS team to deliver results.
  • Drive sustainable initiatives as per global and local requirements.

Plant Engineering & Maintenance (PEM):

  • Lead highly proficient team of plant engineering & maintenance, utilities services and infrastructure.
  • Operations and maintenance (O&M) of high-end CNC machines by implementing maintenance techniques preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, FEMA technique, 5S, TPM, critical control measures, lean process technique etc.
  • Drive continuous improvements for maintaining the performance of physical assets and plant utilities.
  • Implement actions plans towards ERM (Enterprise Risk Management) and crisis management.
  • Support the development of investment plans. lead the business at an overall level and delegate mandate with responsibility to the organization.
  • Preparation of annual budgets for expenses, resources, investments, planning major overhauls and replacement of equipment’s / machines parts / assemblies.
  • Manage budgets, track expenses, and drive cost-saving initiatives and optimize plant engineering objectives within budget constraints.
  • Ensure competence development and staffing within the department.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives like Industry 4.0 to achieve the long-term vision of a modern lean-agile manufacturing setup.
  • Monitor SAP Plant maintenance for effectively manage of organizational maintenance activities.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, ensuring best practices.
  • Implementation experience of Green Power Projects
  • Ensure compliance with integrated management systems - ISO 9001, ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 and FM global risk audit.

Site Development:

  • Manage facility development projects in accordance with local laws and organizational requirements.
  • Ensure the site is developed to meet operational needs and comply with all relevant regulations.
  • Liaison with local government authorities as per Sandvik code of conduct.
  • Drive initiatives for infrastructure improvement and modernization.

Security:

  • Oversee site security measures to protect personnel, assets, and information.
  • Develop and implement security protocols and procedures to ensure a safe and secure working environment.

Leadership:

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills by guiding and motivating your team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Lead by example, embodying Sandvik's Core Values and promoting a culture of integrity, respect, and excellence.
  • Develop and mentor team members, providing opportunities for growth and professional development.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, ensuring transparency and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate constructively with Union Leadership on assigned responsibilities and actively engage and support during wage negotiations.

Your Profile:

  • Minimum 20 years of relevant experience in machine maintenance, utilities, facility development, and infrastructure projects within a manufacturing engineering organization. Experience as a manager under factories act is an added advantage.
  • Engineering graduate in mechanical, production or electrical engineering.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in relevant software, tools used in data analytics and MIS in MS office.
  • Ability to lead a team to drive results with a collaborative style
  • Should be able to speak, write and understand local language.

Required competencies:

  • Strong knowledge on factory, labour laws, EHS standards.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong networking with local government authorities
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer orientation, ensuring maintenance supports operational efficiency.
  • Strong leadership in plant maintenance, reliability engineering, and asset management.
  • Proficiency in performance management, cost control, and maintenance strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory compliance, environmental safety, and risk assessment.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budget management, cost optimization, and investment planning.
  • Expertise in digitalization projects for maintenance, including automation and predictive analytics.
  • Knowledge about world class maintenance practices and lean methodologies.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders such as Govt. & legal authorities, business leaders and technical teams to ensure alignment on goals, project priorities, and deliverables.
  • Capability to conduct risk assessment and develop plans to mitigate short and long terms risks
