Purchase Engineer

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions (SMR) is a business area of the Sandvik Group and a leading supplier of equipment and tools, services, support and technical solutions for the mining industry and specialist sectors such as quarrying, tunnelling, demolition, dimensional stone, recycling and the civil engineering industry. SMRT's offering covers drilling, mechanical cutting, loading and hauling, demolition and recycling, and various solutions to increase automation.

We are looking for a dynamic and an energetic Senior Purchase Specialist. This position will be based in Pune. This role will report to Procurement Manager / Supply Chain Manager.

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced Purchase Engineer with 9–10 years of experience in a Machine Building OEM environment. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring seamless material availability through effective supplier coordination, demand planning alignment, order execution, and delivery performance management.

Ideal Candidate Profile

A proactive procurement professional with 9–10 years of experience in a Machine Building OEM environment, capable of managing supplier schedules, forecast releases, delivery follow-ups, and material availability. The candidate should excel at coordinating with Planning, Quality, Production, Global Order Desk, and Suppliers to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations, strong supplier OTD performance of both localized and imported components, and continuous improvement in supply chain execution.

Key Responsibilities

Demand Planning & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Work closely with Planning, Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to understand short-term and long-term material requirements.
  • Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly cross-functional meetings to review demand forecasts, production plans, and material availability.
  • Translate business requirements into actionable procurement plans to support manufacturing schedules.
  • Proactively identify material shortages and develop mitigation plans to avoid production disruptions.

Forecast Management & Supplier Communication

  • Release periodic forecasts and schedules to localized suppliers based on business demand and production plans.
  • Ensure supplier acknowledgment and commitment against forecasted requirements.
  • Monitor supplier capacities and identify potential constraints impacting future deliveries.
  • Maintain regular communication with suppliers regarding forecast changes and demand fluctuations.

Supplier Delivery Performance (OTD)

  • Follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials as per agreed schedules.
  • Track and monitor supplier On-Time Delivery (OTD) performance.
  • Drive corrective actions and recovery plans for delayed deliveries.
  • Conduct periodic supplier performance reviews focusing on delivery reliability and responsiveness.
  • Escalate critical supply risks and implement contingency plans to maintain production continuity.

Imported Parts Coordination

  • Work closely with Global planning, Global Procurement, and Logistics teams to monitor delivery status of imported components.
  • Responsible on Cost monitoring and reduction opportunities in logistics, packaging, milk runs, etc.
  • Ensure imported materials are delivered in line with production requirements.
  • Coordinate shipment schedules, transit timelines, customs clearances, and delivery commitments.
  • Proactively identify delays and work with internal and external stakeholders to minimize supply impacts.

Quality Coordination & Supplier Performance Improvement

  • Partner closely with Supplier Quality and Manufacturing Quality teams to address recurring supplier quality issues.
  • Drive supplier corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for repeated quality concerns.
  • Monitor supplier quality performance and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in supplier review meetings to improve overall supplier performance in Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD).

Inventory & Material Availability Management

  • Ensure optimum inventory levels while supporting uninterrupted production operations.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and expedite critical requirements.
  • Support inventory reduction initiatives without compromising material availability.
  • Work closely with Planning and Stores teams to improve inventory accuracy and replenishment effectiveness.

Procurement Operations

  • Create, monitor, and manage purchase orders in ERP systems.
  • Ensure timely processing of procurement transactions and supplier communications.
  • Maintain accurate supplier records, commitments, and procurement reports.
  • Support procurement compliance and adherence to company policies and procedures.
