About the Opportunity
Sandvik Mining is seeking a detail‑oriented and commercially minded Pre‑Delivery Estimator to support our Customer Officer – AUNZ Sales Area. This role is critical in preparing accurate cost estimates for equipment pre‑delivery activities, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and profitability across workshop operations.
Working closely with Sales, Production, Aftermarket, and Workshop teams, you will define, cost, and validate pre‑delivery scopes, maintain the pre‑delivery catalogue, and support forecasting and planning activities. Your work will directly contribute to high‑quality machine deliveries, reduced variability, and improved predictability for our customers.
This role is primarily office‑based, with regular interaction in the workshop environment and occasional travel as required.
Responsibilities
Review job and tender specifications to develop accurate, transparent pre‑delivery cost estimates.
Calculate labour, materials, consumables, kitting, modifications, and third‑party supplier costs.
Source and validate supplier and subcontractor pricing to ensure cost efficiency and accuracy.
Create, maintain, and update pre‑delivery scope templates, standards, and the PD catalogue.
Maintain hours of work estimates for PD tasks and ensure consistency across regions.
Update Maximo templates, Kanban lists, and content as changes occur.
Support early scope freeze to reduce variability, rework, and last‑minute changes.
Feed accurate scope and workload impacts into 12‑, 6‑, and 3‑month PD forecasts.
Support PD job plan accuracy and Maximo readiness for upcoming deliveries.
Analyse historical data to continuously improve estimate accuracy and baseline costing.
Collaborate with workshop supervisors, technicians, sales, and aftermarket teams to align scope and delivery requirements.
Ensure all estimating activities comply with Sandvik safety, quality, and procedural standards.
About you
You are an analytical and organised estimator with strong workshop and operational awareness. You enjoy working across functions, balancing detail with commercial outcomes, and driving consistency and predictability in complex operational environments.
Key Skills and Experience
Proven experience in cost estimation, ideally within workshop, manufacturing, or pre‑delivery environments.
Strong understanding of workshop operations, maintenance workflows, and labour cost structures.
Experience using ERP and planning systems, such as Maximo (essential).
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Microsoft Project.
Solid understanding of safety, quality, and compliance requirements within industrial environments.
Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in fast‑paced settings.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present estimates confidently to internal stakeholders.
Trade qualification or tertiary qualification in engineering or a related field (desirable).
