Head of Project Office

The position is based at Sandvik’s Turku site, the primary hub for product development and manufacturing of our Load and Haul equipment. In this leadership role, you will drive our project portfolio, strengthen project management practices, and ensure that our engineering projects are delivered successfully on time, on budget, and with high quality.
Your primary areas of responsibility. Do we share the same mission?
As Head of Project Office, you lead a team of Project experts specializing in project management in specific new product development or technical development projects. You are a member of a Product Offering management team and have overall responsibility of:
- Lead the Project Office team and support the development, training, and performance of our Project Managers and experts.
- Oversee the full Load & Haul engineering project portfolio
- Ensure that all projects meet agreed cost, schedule, scope, and quality targets.
- Manage project budgeting, scheduling, and resourcing processes in close collaboration with stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain project management best practices, processes, and tools.
- Drive continuous improvement in project reporting, communication, and ways of working.
- Facilitate project selection, gate reviews, Steering Group meetings, and monthly cross‑functional project reviews.
- Lead risk management and ensure timely identification of risks and recovery actions.
- Oversee project documentation requirements together with Product Compliance teams.
Your background and what we find important
- Strong experience in project portfolio management within an engineering or product development environment.
- Proven leadership skills and ability to develop and coach a team.
- Understanding of project budgeting, scheduling, and cross‑functional stakeholder management.
- Ability to establish and develop best practices and ways of working.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset.
- University degree in a suitable field.
- As we’re a global organization, you need to be fluent in English, both written and verbal
- MS Office advanced level usage, knowledge of MS Project, PPM Microfocus or other project management related software is highly appreciated
- Position includes some project related travel (usually planned well in advance)
