About the Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Robotics Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Brisbane. In this role, you will design, develop and integrate advanced robotic systems that support autonomous mining operations. Working within a collaborative, cross-functional environment, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge software and automation solutions, from concept and design through to testing, deployment and field trials. You will play a key role in the ongoing advancement of UFR’s autonomous technology platform, supporting both product development and operational excellence.
Travel to mine sites and customer locations will be required as part of product testing and deployment activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop software solutions in C++ and Python to enable autonomous functionality of mining and construction equipment.
- Design, integrate and support robotic, automation and control systems deployed in operational environments.
- Debug, troubleshoot and improve software performance across robotic platforms.
- Support software deployment using Docker, GitHub Actions and modern containerisation technologies.
- Assist with system integration, networking and distributed system deployments.
- Plan and execute field trials, including test development, fault identification and root cause analysis.
- Provide remote and on-site technical support to operational sites and development projects.
- Maintain documentation, change control records and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers, Product Managers and Project Managers to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation and engineering best practices.
About you
Minimum requirements
- Degree qualified in Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related discipline.
- Experience developing robotic systems, autonomous technologies or industrial automation solutions.
- Strong proficiency in C++ and Python development.
- Experience working within Linux environments.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, debugging and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
Highly regarded
- Experience within mining automation, robotics or heavy mobile equipment industries.
- Knowledge of networking technologies including TCP/IP, routing, firewalls and distributed systems.
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions.
- Exposure to automated testing frameworks and software quality practices.
- Experience deploying software within embedded, industrial or operational technology environments.
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning or computer vision technologies.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
