Director, Strategy and Mergers & Acquisitions, Underground Drilling

Underground Drilling Division brings value to our customers in providing industry-leading drilling solutions within underground mining and tunnelling. We operate in close collaboration with our sales areas and other Divisions within Sandvik Mining, ensuring strong customer value through aligned offerings and expertise. Customer focus and safety are at the core of everything we do.

Our operations are located in Tampere (Finland), Lyon (France), Winnipeg (Canada), Jinan (China), and Pune (India).

We are now looking for a Director, Strategy and Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) to shape the future direction of our business and support the execution of our long-term growth ambitions. This is a global role based either in Tampere (Finland) or Lyon (France), reporting to the President of Underground Drilling Division. You will also be a member of the Underground Drilling Division Management Team, contributing to strategic decision-making and the continued success of the division.

Your mission

As Director, Strategy and M&A, you will drive the strategic agenda of the Underground Drilling Division, ensuring that our long-term direction remains aligned with Sandvik and Business Area Mining while supporting sustainable and profitable growth.

Working closely with the President and the Division Management Team, you will lead our strategy development, execution, communication, and performance follow-up across the organization. You will identify strategic growth opportunities through market analysis, business development, and mergers and acquisitions, with a particular focus on automation, digitalization, and electrification.

Acting as a strategic partner to the business, you will translate market insights and industry trends into actionable initiatives that strengthen our competitive position and support long-term value creation.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate the development, execution, and continuous review of the Underground Drilling Division strategy.

  • Ensure division’s strategic alignment and best practices with Business Area Mining and the wider Sandvik strategy while supporting effective strategy deployment across the organization.

  • Coordinate strategy reporting, communication, and performance follow-up, ensuring transparency and alignment across the division.

  • Identify, evaluate, and lead mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and other strategic growth opportunities aligned with the division's long-term ambitions.

  • Monitor market developments, customer needs, competitor activities, and technology trends within both underground mining and tunneling, translating insights into strategic recommendations.

  • Identify strategic growth opportunities in automation, digitalization, electrification, and other emerging technologies.

  • Lead and participate in strategic projects and cross-functional initiatives that support business transformation and long-term competitiveness.

  • Represent the Underground Drilling Division and its Management Team at industry conferences, exhibitions, customer events, and internal strategy forums.

  • Prepare executive-level strategic presentations, business cases, and decision material for senior management and key stakeholders.

Your background and what we value

You have several years of business experience in strategy and/or business development, management consulting, or related leadership roles. Experience within the mining industry is considered an advantage.

You have a proven ability to translate strategy into execution and possess strong commercial acumen combined with excellent analytical skills. Experience in successfully leading or supporting mergers and acquisitions will be beneficial in this role.

You thrive in an international business environment, and you are an excellent communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and simplify complex topics into clear and compelling executive-level presentations. You lead by example and foster a culture of trust, accountability, and teamwork, while consistently demonstrating Sandvik’s core values of Responsibility, Customer Focus, Winning Together, and Curiosity. You have excellent proficiency in English. The role includes global travel as a natural part of engaging with various stakeholders around the world.
