Senior Welding Engineer
Surface Drilling Division within Sandvik Mining is a world leading supplier of surface mining and construction equipment and related services. We are now looking for an experienced Senior Welding Engineer to join our division. This key position is full-time, permanent position and based in Tampere, Finland.
About your role
As a Senior Welding Engineer, you will hold technical ownership of welding in Surface Drilling’s equipment portfolio. You will serve as our subject-matter expert in welding-related technical matters, supplier process optimization, and supplier changes, working closely with engineering, sourcing, quality, and our global supplier network.
You will play a key role in new product development, particularly related to steel structures, by ensuring optimal weldability, manufacturability, and clearly documented welding requirements. Customer feedback and field experience will guide continuous welding-related product improvements in close collaboration with engineering teams and suppliers.
A significant part of your role will be supplier capability development. This includes auditing suppliers, evaluating welding qualifications and documentation, supporting corrective actions, and fostering a strong quality culture across the supply chain. You will also be responsible for welding-related nonconformities, including repair plan development and root cause analysis. The role includes regular travel to suppliers and offers a hands-on opportunity to influence quality, safety, and manufacturing excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical ownership of welding for Surface Drilling equipment
- Development and management of the supplier network from a welding perspective
- Interpretation, implementation, and governance of welding standards and requirements
- Technical support to procurement, projects, and new product development
- Definition, documentation, and maintenance of welding requirements
- Manufacturing phase supervision, audits, and technical approvals
- Handling of welding-related nonconformities, claims, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement
- Ensuring compliance with safety requirements and active development of safe and effective work methods
About your background and what we find important
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and a systematic way of working
- International Welding Engineer (IWE) qualification
- Proficiency in welding and NDT (non-destructive testing) standards
- Ability to work fluently in English and in Finnish
- Willingness to travel
- At least 3–5 years of relevant work experience
